While driving downhill driver noticed that vehicle would not stop. Dealer replaced rotors/calipers, and pads three times since the problem was noticed.

Ever since I bought the car I have had continuous problems with brakes. I"ve had the rotors and pads replaced three times. And to this day I'm still having problems. It seems they are warpped again. I've also had the rack and pinion replaced twice, due to fluid leaks from the top of it. I now have 56K on it now and there is still a clunk whenever I steer to the left or right that the dealership hasn't been able to find. Although the dealership has been good to me, I won't buy another Pontiac.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am, front brake problems, shakes violently, does not stop well. Replaced pad and resurfaced rotors, still have problems.

The front brakes are junk and keep eating brake pads and rotors.not to mention the calipers.I have had 6 sets of brake pads put on my car and they need changed again.I have replaced the calipers, rotors and brake line hoses.I am still having problems.I have talked to auto part stores and they say that this is a common plaint they have with grandam's.I really think you guys should consider checking on this!considering the fact that there are alot of these car on the road.thank goodness I have not had a wreck due to this problem.but when you buy a new car you don't expect to have to put alot of money into it.just so you can keep on driving it.I will never buy another ponitac because of all the trouble I have had and am still having with this car.there should be no reason once so ever for brakes, rotors, brake line hoses, and calipers to have to be changed on such a new car!!unless there is a manufactor problem here!!!!!

Replaced brakes myself because it wasn't covered under warranty, had car in to be service and was told brake pads were defective. But because I had replace they could not do anything about it. I called Pontiac recently because another Grand Am owner told me that was not true. A woman took my complaint she didn't think that was right but after talking to the dealership said that was correct. I said I should not have to pay for a defect on a new car. I have gotten very bad service from the dealership. And the brakes are bad again after only 18,000 miles this time.

Brake pads are separating from metal housing. Loss of brake pads could easily lead to a sudden and catastrophic failure of the entire braking system. Request a recall of all 1999 GM C vehicles to inspect brake pads for defects. Premature failure of brake pads occurred recently on my son's late model GM vehicle also.

After routine front brake pad replacement at 29,000 miles, I began noticing a scraping/grinding sound coming from front wheels/brakes. Dealer stated it was a bad bearing and replaced the right front hub and bearing assembly under warranty. Two weeks later, same noise occurred. This time dealer said it was due to metallic pads. Noise became worse, and one week later car was returned to service department. This time I was told it was due to inside of tire rubbing on inside of wheel rim."?? silicone was applied and noise went away. Five days later noise has reoccurred. Have noticed many such reports. Can anything be done"

- Baltimore, MD, USA
When making a right or left turn vehicle will make a noise and a real hard rubbing sound. Steering wheel will jerk by itself. Contact dealer, not able to help. Brake pads and rotors failed.
