Multifunction switch bad. Searched the internet and found this to be very common on this model as well as the Buick Alero. ***this is not the same problem as the hazard warning switch that was recalled.
- Muskegon, MI, USA
After the hazard warning switch recall 03V327000 repairs were performed the turn signals still malfunctioned. Dealership was contacted, and indicated that the malfunction was due to a failure in the turn signal switch.
- Fayetteville, NC, USA
The hazard and turn signal lights worked intermittently. This vehicle was not included in the NHTSA recall. 03V327000 due to VIN. Tapping on the hazard switch caused the turn signal to function for a short period of time.
- Oviedo, FL, USA
Vehicle was recalled for turn signal switch. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN although it had the same defect.
- Ellwood City, PA, USA
The turn signal switch fails to work intermittently. Recall number 03V-327000. The dealerships mechanic would not repair the vehicle, because the VIN was not included.
- Southgate, MI, USA
Turn signals are failing intermittently. They will work again if the hazard switch is pressed multiple times. I'm aware of a recall for this situation for my make and model car (recall 03V327000). However, Pontiac tells me my car VIN is outside the range of VIN's recalled and that I will have to pay for the repair. Given this is an obvious problem they are well aware of, I feel my car should be covered by the recall.

I purchased a used 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE in Sept. Of 2003, in December of 2003 I started having a problem with the signal lights, they only work sometimes, at first I thought I blew a fuse, that was changed at the garage, and they stopped working again on my way home...since then I lose them about five times a week, its exactly the problem discribed in the article telling about recall number 03043, I called the Pontiac hotline with my VIN number and was told that particular recall does not pertain to my vehicle......thats funny, its doing exactly what the recall states needs fixing........cheryl ames.

My fiancS 2000 Grand Am has a problem with the flasher hazard and turn signals. The flasher for these circuits is constantly clicking when neither switch is activated. It is a very irregular clicking much faster than normal. None of the lights are flashing on (indicating a direct short to ground to me). When either switch is activated, the clicking is normal slower rhythmic sound and the lights appear to function properly. A Pontiac service technician stated that from the number of repairs they have done in recent months, the problem is a shorting in the turn signal switch. The cost of repair is about $400 to $500, due to the time involved (two hours or more) and the cost of the part ($300 $350). He stated that as long as you can live with the noise it is not a problem. My fianc makes about $800 a month and this cost is far more than she can afford, so she has decided not to have it repaired. I am concerned that the only way this flasher would click is if power flowing through it caused by a short. This constant flow of power being fed through this flasher, which is in the top center of the dash, I fear could either cause a complete failure of these circuits and/or cause a fire in the electrical wiring under the dash and steering column. If indeed this short is in the steering columnS turn signal switch, could this also be a concern for a premature deployment of the driverS air bag?

Consumer noticed that intermittenlyt turn signal would not signal. Dealer had been notified.

The turn signals and tail lights have a short in them. I asked a mechanic that works on GM products about it and he said that he has replaced numerous hazard light switches because that is was seems to be the problem. He told me how to check if that was my problem and sure enough that is what is wrong with mine. When I go to use my turn signals sometimes they fail, and when they fail so does my tail lights. When my turn signals fail if I press the hazard button in the center of my dash several times they will start working again. To me that is dangerous and I shouldn't have to do that. He said he has changed this part not only on Grand Am but on all of the GM cars that have the hazard switch in the center of the dash from years 1999-2001.

Turn signal makes clicking noise as if in use but is actually not in use. Clicks sporadically and frequently. Even if turn signal has not been used for several miles it will start clicking on it's own. Has just now started clicking when car is not started. The turn signal lights do not come on just the noise it makes as if the turn signal is in use.

While driving turn signals malfunctioned. Took vehicle to the dealer, repaired it with a multifunction switch, which did not remedy the problem. Vehicle is still malfunctioning.
