Had to fix the bar holding up the steering block, cost me close to 750 dollars although I'm not sure. Had to lift the car, remove the bottom and weld it back on. Almost destroyed the whole car

Drivers side tire started rattling on the way to work and I took it into the shop. They say my stabilizer bar snapped in two. Upon further investigation it was noticed that you have to lift/lower the engine frame to get to the bolts holding the bar in place.
Since my car has been driven in the north for 12 of its 13 years of life, it has quite a bit of rust from salt and snow in winter. Moving this frame could lead to further complications, so I am asking my mechanic if I can just remove the bar and just drive more carefully. Will update in the next 3-5 days with additional details about estimated price of repair and my final decision.

Because most of GM's cars were made with crappy parts like a hollow stabilizer bar, things break easily. Not sure whether or not this should be a recall since it's not particularly deadly to have broken... but it definitely affects the car's control when driving/turning etc.
