Gas pedal had always had a bit of a "hitch" to it. While driving on a major highway the gas pedal became stuck in the "on" position. We were lucky enough to be able to get off of the road and into a parking lot where we turned the engine off. Car had to be towed to a repair shop - undriveable. Consequences: We were stranded for 2 hours in a remote area waiting for a tow truck and without the car for over a week - the time it took to get a replacement part. According to the repairman, the nylon bushing on the gas pedal mechanism was broken. They had to replace the gas pedal assembly. The old part is not available. It was a frightening experience. Worst is that just 2 weeks before that my wife had driven the car to Florida alone - over 1000 miles from old home in New York - most of the trip on the infamous I 95. She could have been killed had this happened on that road.
