Grand Am SE 2.2L

I leave for work early in the morning, when I pressed the brake pads to make a stop. The back light did not lit up, there was a truck behind me, he almost hit me.

We checked both the fuses and bulbs, they are fine. So what the hell is the problem? We searched online for solution...NOTHING!
