Same as all the others on this issue................blower motor/fan was running very weak, and continued to run with ignition off. Occasionally, fan would run strong and at the right setting, but most of the time very weak - or - not at all. Replaced the blower fan and now it doesn't work at all. Checked all fuses.......I suspect it's the resistor which costs $189 at AutoZone. OR maybe it's the control module.
After reading all the complaints about the same problems, I assume this will be a waste of money, but I need to try............It's very cold here in Michigan right now, and I need my heater. I'll report back later as to whether this works or not.
**A tip for everyone else - previously I had a blown fuel pressure regulator resistor which was hard to access (behind passenger side wheel splash guard. BUT when I replaced the resistor, I located it on the firewall so future replacement would be easier (if required). I suspect the SAME IDEA could be applied to replacing the blower motor resistor which is sandwiched behind the blower motor fan and against the interior fire wall, and you can't even access the bolt heads to remove the resistor because you can't get a socket (sandwiched too tight to fire wall). SO when I install the replacement resisitor, I'll mount it in an easier accessible location (still withint wire length reach to fan) and abandone the existing resistor in palce...............I'll let you know how that works out for me.
I AGREE WITH EVERYONE..............This is typical GM bullshit, very bad engineering, and even worse service (my cars is much older - but I see same complaints for newer ones). GM ALWAYS seems to have wiring/electrical issues.
Update from Dec 21, 2009: I picked up and installed the $189 Control Module (Resistor Unit) from Autozone, and installed it last weekend. This fixed the problem. Also, due to the location of the existing Control Module (jammed up against the firewall - impossible to get a socket or a wrench on the screw heads that hold it in place), I installed the new Control Module elsewhere (wires all reached fine), and just left the old one in place, and disconnected the wires & hooked wires into the new unit.
WORKS FINE, PROBLEM FIXED.
