problem #2

Dec 062012

Grand Prix GT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Besides two bad oil leaks from faulty gaskets, I also just found out that the upper intake gasket (Plenum) is bad and needs to be replaced AFTER I just had the cheap elbows replaced that came with the car because they were both cracked! The mechanics I talked to said they see this ALL THE TIME and it is because Pontiac and GM used PLASTIC parts which they knew crack under the temperature. However, they ONLY recalled the Grand Prixs with supercharged engines and let the rest of the grand Prix owners fend for themselves. All the mechanics said this is a problem they see EVERY WEEK and Grand Prixs between 2007 - 2003 3.8L should have ALL BEEN RECALLED to have this replaced and fixed. As a single parent of a 19 month-old little girl, this was the LAST thing I needed now! Thanks GM...I will buy foreign from now on as they stick behind their products and their products are made with quality and hold true.
