We were on our way to my father in law's funeral and the brakes went out. Then the accelerator stuck. I turned off the ignition and we rolled to a stop, then there was a fire under the hood.

Bought a used 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT about two months ago and safety inspection sheet said car was up to par. Not so, just after buying the car the sway bar link was found to be almost broken and the brakes failed just after 5000 miles. Parts were replaced for both and the old parts to the brakes are available to view.

After driving to several stores, upon starting my car I noticed the brake pedal went almost to the floor. I started to pull from the parking space and it took me a long time to stop. I parked and had my car taken to a repair shop. The brake line was rusted through. The mechanic said that should not have happened to a car with only 69,000 miles on it and was a poor design as the brake line runs over the wheel well. He said there are others that will also fail soon. I am going to have them all replaced. My parking brake cable also broke a few weeks ago. Luckily this did not cause an accident.

The rotors warped......front & back....the dealership turned them and told me that it would happen again and that they are covered for only 14000 miles...and that it's just the way they are made anymore (cheap)...and there is nothing they can do about it..I read a lot of letters on the same problem for 2002 Grand Am's...and other GM & Chrysler cars & vans..... I went thru the same thing with my 1995 Dodge intrepid....35000 miles on it & the rotors were turned once & replaced 3 times at my expense... what is going on "....do we have any recourse"

When the brakes were applied, the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance when on a wet surface. The dealer was notified. The brake was applied with excessive force and the pedal had gone to the floor. After 5 to 10 seconds, the brakes engaged and a loud grinding sound was heard along with pulsation while coming to a sudden stop. The vehicle collided with an SUV in front. The passenger side seat belt had broke during the accident.
