I purchased this car about 2yrs ago. in the last several months, if I run from home to the store, or any other short errand then try to start it, it will not start...turns over but will not start at all! I have had to sit in my car anywhere from 15min to a half hour every damn time this happens. Otherwise the car starts great when its been sitting awhile and drives great. HELP!! I have found this problem on other sites but no answer....do not want to put hundreds into it as others have and it still not be dependable as I am giving it to my children to drive.

Id to to take a couple of taxis.I don
t know why it happened, surely because of the cold weather -30 and with the chill factor of wind up to 60 km/h .I think that everything was not operating properly that morning because of the severe weather.
I didnt try but ,may be if I press the lock up button located in the driver
s door and try to turn the switch key,may be it won`t turn at all.

When turning the key to get started there would be delay and sometimes would have to try it twice for it to turn on. One time it did not start at all. My boyfriend had come and switched the gears (he mentioned that the car may not read its in park to start) and he started it right up. I had brought my car to fix this as well as the key getting stuck in the ignition and they replaced the shifter, which solved the key problem but a few months later my car would not start again and was the same exact situation. My boyfriend was able to switch the gears around again and started it right up. After some of my own research on starters, I believe it to be the Neutral Safety Switch (either out of adjustment or bad) or possibly the starter solenoid. My car is in the shop currently and they have no idea what is wrong. They indicated they can't diagnose it unless it acts up and it would start right up for them all day until finally at the end of the day it acted up one time. But they still can't find the problem and only mentioned that the starter isn't getting the power (which again can be from the solenoid or NSS). This is extremely frustrating b/c it makes the car unreliable and I have no idea what to do to fix it. I don't understand why they can't test the solendoid or NSS to see if they have gone bad and no one can explain anything to me in detail. I have a new iginition set and shifter--what else could it be linked to besides the starter? My battery is also fairly new and power is not the problem.

This has been an on-going issue for at least 5 years with no help from Pontiac. I have spent hundreds of dollars replacing parts that dealerships and mechanics have said is the problem - but continue to have the problem.
The car will not start in the heat. If it is parked in a garage or where it is cool it will start no problem and in fall, winter, spring, no troubles but the minute it warms up watch out. We have been stranded many times and just have to wait it out until the weather cools down before we can start the car. Not fun!
