Grand Prix 6-cyl

On a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp with a competition group package, the valve cover gaskets have failed. This causes oil to leak onto the manifold in the engine compartment and allows it to burn. This could in turn cause a fire in the engine. This same problem was recalled on the 1997-2003 models, but has not included the 2004 model. The same problem still exists and must be remedied before fires ensue and lives are lost. Also, the headlights "bounce" or "wobble" while driving. This could cause issues with the ability to see clearly while driving at night.

I have 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3800 series 3 engine. I had to get my intake gaskets and my valve covers replaced. Ive been told that this a is a common issue regarding this engine so I wanted to report it. Maybe it will be a recall someday like the 2003 and older models. This could have potentially been a serious fire and is a serious fire issue.

2004 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicle equipped with a 3.8L supercharged V-6 engine. Engine oil leak from the front valve cover can cause fire. Took the vehicle to Pontiac and was told that it was only covered under 97' to 03' cars because of change in the valve gasket on the 04'. yet it was the same problem. I had just completed having the transmission rebuilt and a new radiator at 49,000 miles at the dealership.

Engine was "bogging down" when attempting to accel. First occurred as I was entering the Ohio turnpike acceleration ramp and could have been more serious had the commercial vehicle not had room to move over.. GM dealer diagnostics advised intake manifold gasket leaking, fuel system clean up $300(done by another GM dealer not taking into consideration the intake manifold gasket issue that GM was fully aware of), oil change, other fluids required to be replaced total bill $2200. GM is well aware of the existing problem.

: the contact stated at any speed the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights, but the vehicle would hesitate prior to stalling. The vehicle restarted after 10 minutes. The vehicle has been to the dealership five times but the repairs have not corrected the problem. The sensor manifold absolute pressure has been corrected twice, the ignition switch has been replaced and the PCM reflash was corrected. The fifth time, the dealership was unable to determine the problem.

Vehicle was emitting blue smoke from its tail-pipe due to excessive use of oil. Since the vehicle has 4000 miles on it, the dealer suspects it's a bad engine.
