Grand Prix GT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,506 miles

Don't get me wrong, I love this car. But I bought the car with about 135000 km's (84000miles) and a week after i bought it, the damn thing started acting up. It's mainly this transmission issue. When I brought it to my local transmission specialist he told me that any of the GM products with the 4T65-E transmission in them have this EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Unbeknownst to me when I bought the damn thing, he told me it happens to all of them. It's funny because when I was looking for this car's problems on carcomplaints.com, I didn't see this one. But I stumbled across it tonight when I was looking at complaints for the 2004 Chevy Impala. Same transmission. Same problem. Except they have about 50 complaints for it, and the 2004 Grand Prix doesn't have any.

So anyway, for the solution he said whenever he gets a GM product with the 4T65-E transmission in them, he runs it for a code. And "ironically" enough, mine was the one that he expected. The code is P1811 (P1811 Maximum Adaptive & Long Term Shift) It's ALL A COMPUTER ISSUE! He said as time goes on, the computer tells the tranny to shift later and thats where the hard shift comes in. He said it would cost $350 to fix as he fixes it with pulleys, where he is just fooling the computer to shift when it's actually supposed to. I'm getting the work done next week, I sure as sh*t hope this works.

When I bought this car, people told me it would last for 300,000 miles. Well so far, I'm not seeing how that's going to be possible. I hate GM's customer service. They don't stand behind their products. But I really do love this car. She's my baby!
