Worst car you can buy, the worst transmission I've ever had even secondhand experience with. After doing some research the v8 model's stock transmission doesn't last more than 40000 miles typically. But who would want to spend that kind of money on a aftermarket transmission for a very ugly and inefficient car. Never buying a GM again. I'll start buying domestic when we can start making cars that don't fall apart at the seams after 80000 miles. I wish I would have had the luxury of picking out my car because I would have never picked out this ugly lame-ass POS

I have a little over 40,000 miles on this car and take excellent care of it and the transmission failed. The dealer said it is the torque converter that fell apart. GM would not help with the cost at all. I have been a GM customer for years and I can't tell you how disappointed I am in them. Even if they would have covered half. This is my 3rd Grand Prix. The first V8. I love the car, but, I sure don't know if I would buy another GM vehicle if General Motors won't back up their products.

Gm put a v6 transmission in a v8 car. A transmission that is only rated at about 280 foot pounds of torque. The car is crank rated at 323 tq.
Not to mention the factory active fuel management is prone to oil consumption and lifter failure.

Took the vehicle to AAA auto body shop and they charge $2500.00 which I think is a very exaggerated price. I had have other new vehicles and I never had any problems with them. I didn't know how bad Pontiac maker was. I will never recommend anybody to get a GM vehicle. If they are buying a car, new or used they should always go for a import vehicle.

In 2010 I purchased my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix used. I was financed $12,000.00 for 4 years. I am on a limited income and am lucky to come up with my payment of $333.00 every month. I drive 40 miles round trip to my job 5 days a week. I need my car, there are no bus routes from the area I live to the area I work. I thought if I purchased a newer car I would not have to worry about major repairs, WRONG! About three weeks ago the transmission started acting strange slipping or making a jerk then going into gear, and it keeps getting worse of course. Wont go into gear or while your driving just goes idle. I have now taken it to 2 mechanics and both have said its definitely in the transmission and it will either need to be rebuilt or replaced at the cost of $2,600.00, which is not for sure of course because they have remove it and look at it first or whatever.
I have had new cars, I have had old cars, old cars a lot older and never had major problems like this. Everyone says this is not normal, this car should not need a new transmission. I cannot afford this, but I'm forced to, I owe on the car, I have to go to work to pay for the car, and now to payback a loan I have to get to pay for this freakin transmission. A loan that I can only pay $50 a month on, FOR 4 YEARS, AND HAVE EVEN LESS MONEY TO LIVE ON. Like an old friend use to say, If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH GM/PONTIAC, good job.

I am still paying on my pontiac grand prix 2006 ! There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints online and facebook about this issue with this car, You see GM put too small of a transmission in this car that has a V8 engine. Most people have had to replace their transmissions long before me. I am just very lucky!! BUT it doesn't matter I have NEVER had to replace a tranny in any car I drove,. Pontiac will not help with the cost, they will not acknowledge there is a factory problem with this issue and they should do a recall on this car and take care of the transmission issue,.
It is going to cost me $3400.00 to get a new transmission, THIS IS SOOOO UNFAIR!!! IF THEY WOULD EVEN OFFER TO COVER HALF THE COST I would feel like they even cared about me as a consumer of their product!
They should stand behind their products!! They just announced the best sales since Nov 2007 !! Yet they can't help me with a transmission issue that they caused by putting in the WRONG SIZE!!!

At first it started slipping and wouldn't respond when I put my foot on the gas. Well last week it totally went out and now I have no car. I called the dealership because i bought it 2 years ago (ED Koehn in Wayland MI) They couldn't do anything for me. Don't ever buy a car /truck from there. I was told by my mechanic recently that the parts on my car are not from 2006. They are OLDER! Now I'm out of a car until I can get enough money together to get it fixed. AND make my payments.Disgusted.

I was surprised to not see more of these complaints on here because when searching through forums, all I could find was problems with the transmission. It usually occurred closer to 90,000 so I didn't get a warranty, but 5 months and 10,000 after purchasing the car the transmission went and my dealer refused to help me in any way. I would never go to McDonald Pontiac of Saginaw again. Worst service and sales team I have ever met.

started out jerking going into gear then changed fluid and filter for a 4 day fix. then would only move when transmission was cold once it hit 150 degrees it would stop moving till cool down had aamco rebuild transmission at a cost of around $2200.00 that took them a week an a half to do. it drove ok for two days then would shift hard one moment slip the next then would slip out above 2000 rpms straight to 5000 rpms has been back to aamco 3 times in two weeks now. they're saying a computer problem. can only imagine the cost of a computer.have had other problems with car while it was under warranty - radio, and other electronic issues. will never buy another gm product again!!

It started out with the car slipping when moving from idle to 1st gear. Now, when it tries to shift from 1st to second, it hesitates and slips out of gear. It acts as if it will not fully engage. Mechanic states that the transmission fluid pan has metal shards in it indicating transmission damage.
I would have bought another car if I had the money and credit to do so.
