The contact owns a 2002 Pontiac Montana. While closing the sliding door the contact's son reached into the vehicle and it closed on his hands. She was unable to open the door once it closed. The fire department had to open the door. The failure caused bruising and swelling on both of his hands. The contact stated that there wereno sensors on the sliding door to detect motion. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 50,000.

The contact stated the power sliding doors opened and closed without warning. This occurred intermittently while the vehicle was in use. The contact was concerned for the safety of the children riding in the rear seats, where these doors are located. The vehicle has been seen by the service dealer three times for diagnostic testing. However, the problem has never been accurately diagnosed.

The automatic sliding door caused the passenger to break her wrist. When she put her hand on the handle and pulled it back the door began to slide back. While getting out of the vehicle, the passengers hand was between the handle and door causing the wrist to snap. There is no auto reverse, once it makes contact with an object.

Since purchase, have had problems with both passenger sliding doors. The driver's side automatic sliding door would constantly open and close at will. Have had repairs done at the dealership on a number occasions. It works for a short period of time and then starts over again. Now, I've shut off the automatic feature but the door is very hard to open and close. The passenger side automatic door got stuck in the open position. After finally forcing it closed and shutting off the automatic feature, the door will not open at all. In light of the number of people having constant problems with these doors, GMC should be forced to have a recall and replace the door motors so they work properly before someone gets killed with these doors which open and close without warning.

1) all four doors (minivan) both the driver, passenger and both sliding door latches and lock assemblies are defective. Doors do not always latch when closed and also will open during operation of the vehicle. Have had both cases of doors not latching when trying to close and also open during operation. Dealer has replaced all four latches at my cost with no consideration to the real problem of a defect. Below I have indicated on incident date, but has occurred many times. Have contacted Pontiac but have received no satisfaction.
