Speed/RPM/gas/oil-dash board gauges went out on my 2004 Pontiac Montana. Kinda important that those things work?!! Hired a certified mechanic. (Not a dealer, but professional and legitimate). When dash was removed to replace broken gauges battery was disconnected. That set off anti-theft lock on radio. This guy was beside himself having to return my car without the radio working. Told me to go to dealer and he would pay to fix it. I appreciate his offer, but NO!! Not his fault.

If you have a certain radio you can go on Internet or YouTube and figure out how to reset it for free. If you have my radio you get to go to the dealer and pay $150 to get reset. This guy has worked on our vehicles for many years and if this problem had been known he would have warned and sent us to the dealer to fix the problem. Seems like a little hidden secret. What a money making crock, if I have title in hand dealer should reset for free.

I love this van. It's just the right size and offers amazing comfort. All of my kids are grown out of house, not a soccer mom and I still want a van. But when it's time to up grade I'll never buy from these guys. I'm going to get an after market radio because I have not found a free fix anywhere. Should my battery ever die again that would be another $150 to turn radio back on, AGAIN. Almost if not fully paying for an aftermarket, because I can install myself. Don't you earn enough interest rates on young kids car loans to not have to make money this way? Feels like a bank charging me money to spend my money, charging me money to deposit my money, charging me money to Inquire about my balance.

Bad form Pontiac/Chevrolet...bad form Peter Pan... WHAT A SCREWY WAY TO MAKE SURE A CUSTOMER HAS TO COME BACK AND PAY SERVICE FEES.

If you have one of these and plan to change the radio out yourself, which is fairly easy, save yourself the trouble. GM wants $750 for a replacement radio. So I thought I'd go to a wreckers and find one. I did get one for $100. Brought it back and installed it, but because of the anti-theft it wouldn't work. The display said locked. I searched the net for instructions to unlock it, but that year must be taken in to a GM dealer to unlock it. They wanted $250 to do it. I said screw that! I did manage to just replace the face of the old stereo with the one I got from the wreckers and it worked..... for about a year, now this one is dead too.

I'd put in an aftermarket, but this van has the DVD package and I'd have to replace the works. I'm not keeping this thing, so forget it!
