Mechanic (who had the car a few weeks earlier, hmmmmmm!) "advised" that the AC needed to have the Condenser coil (on the front of the compressor) replaced for $320.00. If you price a whole new A/C you will realize the humor in this "suggestion". Obviously, we opted to get our car out of this shop as soon as possible. Got it home and talked to a special GM guy who told us to take a look at the compressor plug (not easy to get to on a 96 sunfire but with hood up facing the car it is on your left almost directly under the belt close to the ground). Our GM friend was on point. The plug was unplugged! He advised that we should clean the prongs up and plug back in and...... it is now keeping us cool again. Cost: NOTHING but a grudge for the so called mechanic.
