Was driving home from work, parked at my house and a neighbor stopped by to tell me that when I was driving I had no rear brake, turn or marker lights on the car. Checked it out, checked fuses and found that a fuse had gone bad. Drove down to the local car parts store and picked up some fuses. Replaced it, turned the car on, was fine for about 5 minutes and the fuse burned out again. Replaced it a second time and lights stayed on. Smelled burning plastic and saw smoke billowing out of the trunk. Turned the car off and opened the trunk. Took to my mechanic and he found that the wires that run to the marker lights on the sides of the rear bumper have no protection. Driving in a state that uses salt to keep ice off the roads and having the rear tires kick up salt water caused the wires to corrode. It caused the light bulb in that light to burn out and then when still forcing electricity to the light started the car on fire. It cost about $50 dollars to fix the light, two weeks later the light went back out and I haven't bothered with fixing it.
