power & battery good car won't crank no star noise at all

Drove this car for 100,000 miles with shift solenoid, check engine light no problems. Asked Pontiac mechanic and "drum roll" it's the shift solenoid. I asked him if he ever heard of the neutral safety switch and he said "drum roll" well it's probably the starter or battery. Tested the 3 year old battery very good shape and nearly full power. Definitely the starter he said. I left. The car is in the drive. I will fix it when Spring arrives. Thanks for the rant.
