After our 2008 Pontiac Vibe reached about 40,000 miles the "Check Engine" light would occasionally come on and mechanics couldn't find anything wrong. One mechanic gave us a tip. When the Check Engine" light comes on make sure the gas cap is tight and another solution is to add fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. The gas cap was tight and undamaged so we bought fuel injector cleaner and that made the light go off. As the car became older we had no issues with the performance and repairs accept for normal " wear and tear" parts issues, rubber hoses, tires, wind shield wipers, etc. The only issue as the car's mileage went higher was the "Check Engine" light would go on periodically. We always took it to a mechanic and they would never find anything wrong. But it I added fuel injector cleaner the "Check Engine" light would go off.
