Vibe 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

It seems this is a common problem with Pontiac and Toyota 1.8l models the part is only $200, but the labor to repair it is 10 times that. Should be a recall.

When I start the car it makes an awful SCREECHING noise, sounds like metal on metal.. seldom does it do it after the car is warmed up during the day... has been back to dealership several time and they say they don't hear it.. of course not, the car is warmed up when I get there.. After I wrote to Pontiac, they kept it over night once, but said they didn't hear anything the next morning. The car was purchased on 12/15/2010.. it started on 12/16/2010.. its been going on since... friends and neighbors have heard it .. it seem to get worse now, and another letter send to Pontiac had the Svc Mgr call and said they would come to my house to hear for themselves. They arrived, I started the car and the tech jumped back at the SCREECHING.. I felt vindicated as they could no longer deny they heard it... they then said that the car would have to go in and be kept overnight for others to hear.

The car has now been there for 3 days.. when I called for status, a service tech said they were working on it, but just heard a "MINOR" noise.... that got ME screeching... a minor noise?... what do they call a major noise!.. and H-bomb going off?... I still don't have my car back after 3 days.. I'm handicapped.. my walker is in the car.. I've missed my medical appt... If returned in the same condition I'm afraid that whatever makes that noise will break and cause further damage.. what if I'm a Hwy somewhere.. what if it cause a fire?
