1500 Bighirn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission

Problem solved...... 2012 Ram 1500 would die randomly. At idle or while driving. Dealer had for 3 weeks. Used a running data log as well. Kept telling me it was the TIPM. I replaced it and had the same issue. Was not a key FOB issue either. Went thru that with the dealer as well.

I fixed the problem. I ran my own data log and found it was losing crank sensor. So I replaced the crank sensor and had the same issue. So I removed the crank sensor again, looked inside the hole, toned the engine over until I saw the crank sensor pickup on the crank. It was covered in a whiteish grease. I used a skinny stick and a rag tied to the end of it, dipped it in mineral spirits, stuck it inside the crank sensor hole and cleaned the crank pickup lobe a couple times (on the crank itself), reinstalled the crank sensor and BAM! Problem solved and never returned. So, clean the crank sensor pickup on the crank itself......

Within the past 2 months, my 2012 Ram has stalled when driving down the highway at various speeds, or stalls just after I start it up. I have changed the keys. Sometimes it wouldn't do it for days and other times it's 2 or 3 times a day. This is a safety issue and a solution should be found so this can be fixed. Thanks, Steve T.

1500 Laramie 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,321 miles

Again driving down the road I take a corner and the son of a. Blank, lost all electrical power to everything and died, almost hit another car trying to control truck. Pulled over put in neutral, hit key and it cranks. This is wrong and needs to be recalled. A truck that cost this much should not randomly die while driving, no vehicle should.

FEMALE. OWN A 2012 1500 DODGE RAM LIMITED LONGHORN. STICKER PRICE $53,000. Bought new. 28,000 MILES. MOSTLY HIWAY MILES. SERVICED ON SCHEDULE.

PROBLEM: went to Costco and when pulling into the parking lot & putting truck into park it started to vibrate...the whole truck. Turned off . Started truck , still vibrating. Drove off & pulled up to the 4 lane . As I slowed down my truck just turned off. Steering locked , everything quit . I am now half on highway half off. Almost caused a major pile up as vehicles went around me. Put in park , restarted. Started & drove on side of road until I could turn right off HIWAY. Slowed down to turn... Died again , almost rear ended from traffic behind me turning. Put in park & restarted ( bracing myself to be hit from behind). Floored the pickup , drove until I could find somewhere to pull off. Off ramp ahead , when I slowed down to get off road it died again!!!!! Now I am sitting in off ramp with vehicles flying past me and around me honking etc. not one person stopped to help! Restarted, drove down ramp in right lane praying for a green light ahead. Nope. So I drove it off the road to prevent a major pile up. Called towing . Tow guy put on tow truck and while he was loading my truck backfired a few times... Loud! Called a Friend who picked me up and I broke down crying hysterically. I really lucked out that day.

Went to dealership to pick up truck 6 days later. Paperwork stated: CUSTOMER STATES THE POWER STEERING "felt" like it froze up. Power steering ok, ps ok, underside ok,probably related to poor running condition. Ps worked well on road test. Engine light on.

That was it!!! Thankful I didn't have my kids with me.!!!after explaining the ordeal I had just went thru and how panic stricken I was all they could say was I "FELT" like it froze up. I had no control over my truck!!!!! People could have been seriously hurt!

They replaced broken valve spring on cylinder #3. That was that. I told them I am the "soccer mom" and haul kids around to practices, games and tournaments out of town and am freaking out this could happen again with small children with me and I might not be so lucky!!! I was told it was perfectly safe and to not worry. That was that. Has anyone else with a new truck like mine had the same problem? I am so worried this will happen again. Thank you for letting me RANT.
