1500 ST 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,520 miles

2012 Dodge RAM 1500 , 5.7 hemi, 4WD. The 4WD stuck in 4L and would not go to either 4H or 2WD. Nothing worked to get it functioning. Reset (I think) the truck systems by disconnecting the battery but on re-connection the thing was still stuck in 4L. Putting truck in Park, Neutral or anything else did not work. Nor did driving slowly and trying to get the %$^* thing out of 4L What ultimately worked but clearly is not a long term solution, was putting the shift into Drive, then pressing the (+) and (-) buttons on the gear shift going up and down through the gear selections while stopped and with the Drive selector in 2WD. Suddenly the 4L light went out and the vehicle was in 2WD. Other failures that occurred with the truck stuck in 4L were: the "tow haul" would not engage, the "skid button" did not work, the "neutral (towing)" button did not work, and the seat belt audio warning did not work. Sounds like a major computer glitch/failure. Although now working OK, I have zero confidence that if I'm parking or pulling a trailer out of a soft spot that the thing won't fail again this time far from home.

Thank you Dodge for a crappy product. All those years building vehicles and still full of faults. No wonder the F150 is more popular.

1500 Lone Star Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 23,744 miles

Transmission seemed like it was slipping when taking off from a stop. It also is missing shifts when under medium acceleration. It is very annoying.

1500 Sport 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

transmission sluggish, not shifting properly

I purchased a 2012 Ram 1500 (Hemi) in February of 2012. $39,000 and 10 months later, nothing but headaches and problems. From day one the transmision hasn't been shifting correctly, and when you come to a complete stop there is a 1-2 second delay and then you feel a thump in the brake pedal. Almost as if the transmision is dropping into 1st after you've stopped. I've been complaining about since day 1 and the dealers response has been "Just keep an eye on it, if it gets worse we'll look at it".

Here is the best part. 5 days ago I turn onto my street on my way home and the accelorator gets stuck. Not the gas pedal. The throttle body. I have both feet on the brake pedal and the truck starts doing a burnout because the throttle is stuck wide open.. Dealer has the truck towed, 1 day later they tell me to come and pick up the vehicle they can't duplicate the issue. I am selling this hunk of junk. Taking my losses and making it my lifes mission to bad mouth DODGE every free waking moment I have.

Just today in the Home Depot parking lot. Some guys comes up to me."That's a hot looking truck". My response "It's the biggest piece of crap I have ever bought, don't even spend 1 dollar of your money on these trucks". And that will be my response every time until either Dodge fixes my truck or I sell it..
