The gauge cluster flashes like a video game, it is very annoying at best but starts to distract me when driving especially at night. I have looked on the internet for a possible fix but every thing I have tried did work Dealer wants to change whole gauge cluster but I cannot afford the high price. From what I have learned on the web I am not the only person with this problem, it seems to be quite common on the Ram pickups,

  • 101,000 miles

My instrument cluster flickers on and off all the time. It doesn't matter what the dimness is set at or what temperature it is set at. Mine flickers with or without the headlights on and on all dim settings. The dash and fix with the programming is around $1000 and this is not something FCA should stick the customer with. This is the first Ram pickup I have ever owned and I am having serious regrets about the purchase now.

1500 Big Horn 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

Instrument panel and radio go black then restart. First time this happened was in 2018, mileage approx 39,000. Took to dealership, they said it needed an update. Problem disappeared for about 5 months. Then happened again, back to dealership, mileage at maybe 40,000. Again needs update. 2 months later happens again. Dealership says cannot replicate, unsure of cause. This is occurring more and more often. Hit a bump and instrument cluster and radio go black and then restart. Warning lights come on like when you start the engine. What is the solution to fix this? My truck has 61,000 miles on it. Dodge/Ram NEEDS to fix this. It's scary. What else will fail?

1500 Big Horn 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

Actually happened several times last winter (Dec2017-March2018) and again this year (December 2018 to Jan 2019) until I traded the truck. Whenever the temp went below 0 degrees, the screen between the speedometer and the tach would go blank until the truck warmed up inside. Also happened once to the 8.4 screen this past fall. That screen stayed blank until I restarted the truck after it sat for a while. The media screen blanking is just a pain. The screen behind the steering wheel was the only way I could see the speed without wearing reading glasses (which made seeing the road kind of difficult). Reported it to my local dealership and they acted like they never heard of it. (Sure... that's why there's a lawsuit).

Truck was less than a month old with under 3,000 km on it. While entering the freeway, all lights came on in the instrument cluster and the indicator on the speedometer and odometer started wildly moving back and forth from zero to the maximum. The truck then went in to "limp mode" and would not accelerate over 40 km/h. I pulled to the side of the road, shut off the truck and re-started it. This cleared the problem.

Approximately 30 minutes later while on the highway, the problem occurred again. All lights came on, gauges started acting funny and the truck went in to limp mode. Pulling to the shoulder, turning off the truck and re-starting it cleared the problem. I then drove it directly to the dealer.

The dealer ended up replacing the computer (ECM) which was luckily covered under warranty. Issue has not re-occurred.

My dash goes dark and resets while I'm driving. This started back in February 2016. Dealership replaced a twilight sensor and the issue stopped for a couple months, but returned. It happens a couple times a week at least.

1500 Laramie 5.7L Hemi V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,800 miles

This is a recurring problem. Periodically, without warning, the instrument display will shut off completely while the vehicle is in motion. The screen goes completely black; prior to this, the speedometer /tachometer reading goes to zero. Then the screen will reboot and resume operation. I have had this at the dealer before; they stated they were not able to reproduce it.
