I was making a turn in a 25 mph zone and when I turned the wheel, it would not complete a full turn and I was forced into the curb. While driving after that, I tested both left and right turns, and the truck would not turn on either side. Fortunately, I was not driving to work at 60mph on a windy road with other vehicles. I checked to see it there was a recall, and nothing. However, recalls existed on the 2015 and 2016 year for the same thing!!!! I have been a loyal dodge customer until now. This is absolutely ludicrous, and extremely dangerous I am now buying a new vehicle.

  • 83,300 miles

I own a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 with 83,300 miles on it, no mechanical issues until my power steering suddenly went out while driving down the highway. I took my truck into the dealership only to be told while their is a recall on these trucks for this same exact reason mine was not included and it would cost $3,700 to fix the issue which is the EPS module you can't replace just that part though you must replace the entire rack and pinon this issue needs to be addressed that situation could of been fatal.

1500 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

Driving from New Hampshire to Vermont for the day, half way across the state the steering wheel was stiff and I had to muscle it through the corner, scared the hell out of me. It felt like the pin to lock the steering wheel was activated. We had to go back to the main highway, straight roads to get home again. Took this to a Dodge dealer for the rack fix. This has cost me a new battery so far, At Valvoline the old battery tested fine.13.5 volts. So now the Dodge garage is going by the next step to change the rack and steering joint. Process of elimination. This is going to cost me $ 4,000 + to fix. The 2016 had a recall, this should also. I love dodge trucks, but this is my last one.

1500 REG.CAB 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,226 miles

OK.... yes I bought my truck new in 2014 REG. CAB and only has 26, 226 miles to date.

On Thursday July 6th I came home from my DR. on Sat. I was going to corner store, started up my truck up put her in reverse and had no power steering.... shut it off and did a restart still the same. Got on the interweb and somebody said it could be the 125 amp. fuse by battery. that was not it. had to wait until Monday to get a flatbed truck to take to dealer. $85.00 Fayetteville dodge in Fayetteville NC. Called and said it was the elect. power steering rack that was going to be $4900.00 and will take 7 to 10 + days to get a new rack.. I am probably getting ripped off but they have my truck and to have it towed all over to find a cheaper price. Will only cost me more..... anyway I called the NHTSA Administration 1-888-327-4236 and there is not a recall on my truck. S0 you guys call them and and tell them about your steering ..... the more people that call on there elect power steering the more of a chance we can get a RECALL.......

I don't understand the elect. power steering is the same from 2013 to 2019 maybe longer ....... if they have a problem with the power steering and it's the same rack and the same reason it failed they should recall and fix them....... thanks for letting me through my ASS good luck

1500 LX 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,400 miles

This is my girlfriends truck first and foremost. I'm a 260 lb guy and she's a 120 lb woman, I had just left the hospital where she currently is with cancer. On my way back to the house to take care of the animals etc. the power steering completely failed during a hard curve on the interstate doing about 50. LUCKILY I was the one driving and was able to not run off the road, god forbid it had been her, because there is no way she could have saved it with her size/current medical conditions.

When the steering went out it had jerked me hard enough that it pulled my wrist out of socket and I had to catch the wheel with my arm/body weight. After looking into this, turns out it's a fairly common issue and the 2015-16 and 19's have a recall for this EXACT issue with the same power steering setup, however the 14 isn't covered. So now I'm stuck with 2 issues. A non working vehicle that's going to cost me around 3k based on everybody else reporting this, and a girlfriend who has medical debt. I'm obviously going to deal with her first, but this is some horse crap. To think this is such an issue that they've made recalls on other year models with the same setup but not this specific year model is a disgrace. I'm understanding why everybody is starting to avoid Rams.

I can’t hardly drive anywhere - it's too hard to turn. It hurts your arms to try to turn it. It is so hard to turn the wheel - you have to do real wide turns to get it to turn. I worry about running over something or someone because the wheel is too hard to turn, because the power steering goes in and out. I’ve talked to so many people that complain about their power steering and brakes, and the heat blower too. This is bull - you pay 30,000 on this vehicle and it’s a lemon. I don't want to ever buy a Dodge Ram again!

1500 Big Horn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

I'm just running into (pun intended) the EPS issue that is mentioned throughout the internet and now good luck trying to find the part. I was backing up at walking speed and the truck jerked and then wouldn't let me turn the wheel until I shut it down and re-started. All the while it was flashing multiple warnings in the dash. There's a wonderful grinding noise coming out of the unit now. My mechanic said there's no ETA on the part.

WTF?! I had to get that out, I am ready to take it to a different manufacturer and trade it in. I get that they all have issues but not owning up to a safety concern like this is scary and ridiculous. My wife drives the truck as much as I do. Well, she used to, but now it's a big-ass expensive paperweight in the front yard until I can afford to deal with it. I don't think I want her in this truck at all, ever again.

We have the same issue. Steering went out while driving, warning light came up in dash cluster. Turned off vehicle, restarted and the warning went away and steering was back. Started home only to have the steering go out again. I was able to get it home. After a week, husband took it for a drive and all was fine. Drive it for over a month with no problem. Then it went out again. Talked with Bachman Auto Group of Jeffersonville, IN. It's not under warranty, and the part is unavailable. They will check in two weeks to see if they can get it. And if they do get the part they can't service it until October, so almost two months wait. They did offer to sell us a new vehicle and take this in on trade.

ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE on 2014 Ram 1500 Black Express 4x4.

My wife was driving down the interstate when the power steering went out while changing lanes. Luckily it was 8PM and not rush hour or she could have caused a ten car pile up from trying to gain control. She got herself together, started the truck and it worked again for a few miles before failing again but this time it stayed. This should be a recall immediately!

Truck purchased new, driven by a 75 year old woman, never off roaded and garage kept. Now, at 64K miles the steering rack dies. The dealer just called to say it will cost $2508.70 to fix. Obviously there is a defect that could have killed my wife. She has told me she is afraid they will replace it with the same defective parts and it will happen again while she's driving. In NH a 2016 Ram pickup just collided with and killed seven motorcyclists. Was that really an accident? FCA needs to deal with this or I see a massive class action suit in their near future.

1500 Big Horn 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,250 miles

I have a 2014 Ram with around 48k miles. On Friday 11/15/2019 I went to leave my house and once again while I was driving the truck it lost steering and this time power dropped. I again had it towed into the service dealer on 11/25/2019. Today 11/22/2019 they stated that again they could not duplicate the issue. They did find error codes about voltage but however stated that the computer “fixed itself” and cannot fix the steering issues.

With all this I love my truck, however with the with the safety of myself, my family, and others on the road in mind, driving this truck while the steering can possibly go out at any time is not a good idea by any means. I really would like to drive a safe reliable truck. I went through some issues with GMC about their Sierra line and decided to go with Ram instead. Starting to think Toyota might have been a better choice.

Hopefully I can get this fixed and back to being able to get to work and life outside my house.
