This is coming from someone who is a first time truck owner. I did my research, asked people who own Ram trucks and got a lot of positive feedback. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck but...there was a problem with my transmission shortly after driving it off of the lot. The problem did not seem to be mechanical but software related. Whenever I was going over 50 mph and had to slow down, there was a noticeable downshift. And I mean noticeable. I took my car into the dealer at least 4 times over a couple of years to have them look at the transmission. Each time they tried tweaking the software but it was still there. At about 40k miles, the problem went away. I also had an issue with the truck leaking oil heavily within the first couple of years of owning it. Why in the hell would a new car leak oil? I can't remember what was causing it but the dealer did fix it without charging me a fortune. They got their money on other stuff though.

2014 RAM 1500 Lonestar edition. 5.7 hemi with the 8 speed transmission. First time owning a Ram truck. Never bought one back with the OBS due to me knowing about the transmission issues they had. When the 4th gen body came out with the new transmissions, I figured I would finally give them a try.

So far, I must say I love the comfort of the interior and the way the truck feels and the power the the 5.7L hemi. But ever since owning it I have constantly had a vibration shimmy issue with the truck. The tires that were on it were pretty worn down, so I thought it could have been them at first. Went ahead and bought new all terrain tires. Had them balanced and mounted. Truck still had a light vibration but not near as bad as it was.

Now after awhile, I have the vibration getting worse. then it even has a bounce type of feeling in the rear end. I am starting to think it could be a bad U-joint and I will be replacing front struts and rear shock absorbers at that time too. The other issue I have had with this truck is one time while I was driving on the interstate. I moved over to pass a car who was going slower than I was, as I did so when I stepped on the gas the truck did nothing, nothing revved up and no speed increase. Yhe way I got it to go is I stepped on the gas harder (than I should have had to) and got it to get back up to speed and got over. I also have the normal feeling the bump or slip type feeling when coming to a complete stop.

I have had all the recalls repaired on the truck with the computer flashes and what not and still not solve to my issues. when driving and climbing hills it sometimes seems like my truck is pulling a load when clearly i'm not, nothing even in the bed. Not really sure what i should do now. anyone else ever experience any or all of these issues? What did you all do about it?

I have had multiple issues with this truck. It has been in for warranty work over 10 times within the first 9500 miles.... All of these visits will be posted in their respective categories.

This current issue was for a very hard downshift from 2nd to 1st gear where the vehicle would lunch forward just before coming to a complete stop. i stated this to the service writer each time i took it in for the other issues and kept being told that there are no updates for the transmission and that they can not replicate the issue. After mentioning it the fourth time I decided to call Chrysler customer care. I had a STAR case opened up and was told that the valve body may not have been drilled out correctly and that it would be replaced.

Upon the service department opening up the transmission they noticed a large amount of metal shavings inside. Chrysler advised them to just replace the valve body. The dealership stated that changing the valve body alone did not solve the issue. They replaced the entire transmission, cooler lines, and the transmission cooler. After 26 days they returned the truck to me.

The issue seemed to be resolved until 2 weeks later and it started doing the same thing again but this time between 3rd and 2nd. 3 days ago when I started the truck and put it in gear the Check engine light came on. Vehicle would not shift into 8th gear and the VVT system would not kick in. The next morning the light was off and I took it to the dealer where they could not find a "Hard Fault" code. Truck was returned.

Has any body else had these type of issues?

Bought this truck new in June 2014 for the purpose of working as a pilot car for oversized loads. Shortly after I started using the truck on a regular basis I noticed that it would 'thump' as it came to a stop! This didn't occur all the time but when it did, it seemed that gradual stopping was the ideal condition for it. As I write this I now have 107,000 km on the odometer and I have not had the 'hard downshift' occur in a long long time! Perhaps it has worked itself out, as I beat this truck up on a regular basis with sudden acceleration and braking as well as traveling mining roads at highway speeds in performing my job. I would definatly have to say that my Ram is tough enough to get the job done, as I use it, and although no vehicle is perfect, this truck has never let me down regardless of weather, terrain or severe duty!

Truck downshifts going downgrade at random. Feels like someone is shifting into first from overdrive. Dealer can't fix. Dodge won't acknowledge a problem. Last time it happened was going down a steeper back road. Truck sounded like someone was revving in neutral and not going anywhere. Thought for a couple of seconds I would need a tow. Kind of like someone hit the brake and gas at the same time, not the case.

This has been going on since shortly after buying brand new. Dealer attempted a fix which appeared to gear truck lower and my mileage dropped 3 mpg. Wasn't a complete fix but better. Now worse then ever. Parked in when roads were icy due to worry it would happen on an icy hill and send me off the road.
