The engine gets a ticking sound (known as the "Hemi Tick") it's the lifters not getting enough oil and in turn damages the cam and lifters have to be replaced.

Getting REAL tired of hearing the engine ticking noise on my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with Hemi engine. Every time it's started up, a loud ticking sound emits from the engine and sounds like a valve or lifter is about ready to break. I have tried adding Marvel Mystery Oil at every oil change, run full synthetic oil, etc., but nothing seems to tame this beast. Looking forward to the results of the class action lawsuit just filed in May 2022 and hope FCA engineers come up with a permanent fix to the ticking problem.

Bought my 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn with 70k on the odometer. Everything was great for the first 10k that I put on it. At around 80k miles there was a ridiculous tick coming from the engine. Took it into my local Dodge dealership and was informed that it was the exhaust manifold issue. Two days later (with no loaner), they replaced the manifold, gasket and bolts and promised me there were no further issues. I accepted their diagnosis and went on with my day. Suspicious of it being a bigger problem than just the exhaust manifold, I changed the oil at 75% left.

Behold - the ridiculous tick was back.

Not only was the tick back, I suspected that they added something to my oil. When I changed it, it came out thick and black. Something that shouldn't be when I've only used 25% of the oils life expectancy. I called the local dealership and set up ANOTHER service appointment. A day off work and no loaner available I left it with them AGAIN!!! The next day they called and stated that the other exhaust manifold had failed and they replaced it. Guess what, the tick was still there.

After fighting with the service department, they finally stated that the tick is common problems with the 5.7 Hemi. Turns out that I have bad roller lifters and they are back ordered 16k units with no time frame as to when my truck will be fixed. I am nearing my 100k/5yr warranty and I am floored as to how a "Known Problem" isn't fixed more expeditiously. I am now driving my truck, not towing a thing to not add more stress to the motor, not knowing whether I'll make it to my destination daily... I bought a new (to me) truck expecting to not have problems. Wow was I wrong. Dodge needs to do something because I'm obviously not the only person with this problem. One more service department visit and I'm filing a Lemon Law case.

Bought my work horse in 2015, O' by the way the truck is payed off. Once the truck hit 75k I noticed a noise coming out of the engine block at cold start. The Famous HEMI tick, manifold bolts broken, leaving the HEMI engine with a loud ticking noise. Took the truck in for checkup at FIAT Dodge dealership, had to pay $150 for the diagnostic, they told me exactly what I told them the issue was. The truck has hit 100k and now Dodge is telling me it’s out of warranty. The dealer said the repair will cost me over $1,800.00 to repair both sides. They also told me they will reimburse me half after I pay the full amount. My truck has always gone in for all its maintenance and oil changes, re-calls. Etc … Am sure there is a lot of HEMI owners with the same issue. If you (YOUTUBE) “HEMI tick” you will find thousands of videos demonstrating this problem. Hopefully it’s a recall….. Any knowledge or help will be greatly appreciated.
