The gauge reading was ok from full down to about 1/2, then went to empty and engine light comes on. I Googled the problem and diagnosis was that the unit broke because the design had an issue at very low fuel levels and the float stop breaks resulting an damaged potentiometer connection. The dealer wanted $1000 to fix it, $500 for the part and $500 labor. Rock auto sells the same part for $125. It was a lease vehicle so I filled it up and turned it in.
