1500 Long Horn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Shifts hard just before coming to a complete stop. Down shifting from 2nd to 1st gear. The first time it happened I thought I got rear ended or the tailgate dropped.

Ram needs to address this problem. The internet is full of similar complaints. I've even gone so far as asking complete strangers if they have the same problem and they said yes.

1500 Big Horn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 73,000 miles

I bought this truck used and after about a week noticed that it shifts hard from 1st to second gear. Like many other users have said I notice it most 1st thing in the morning or the first time I am driving it after work. Truck jerks hard in the shift....this is just one of SEVERAL issues I have had with this truck...its going to make me lose my loyalty to Dodge at this rate!

1500 Big Horn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The 2-1 downshift is very abrupt and there is nothing smooth about it. I have taken it to the dealership 3x now. The 1st time they said they couldn't replicate the issue so we did a drive with the shop foreman. He felt the problem and knew this was common. Then the dealership called me two days later and said they couldn't replicate the issue. I advised them I replicated it with the shop foreman already. This was alarming because this situation clearly doesn't make any sense. They said they relearned the transmission and sent me back out with my truck.

2nd visit, they took the truck and let some shop tech take it home for the night and drove it over 100 miles while hooked up to a computer apparently. They couldn't replicate the issue. Relearned the transmission and sent me back out again. 3rd visit, I advised them I called FCA and they will be handling this from here on out. I showed another shop foreman the problem, he felt it, and said this is the way it's supposed to be and to "not be looking for problems with the truck, otherwise you'll find them".

FCA advised me that this is the way it's going to be and there is no fix for this. I've owned 9 vehicles in my lifetime and driven many more, and no vehicle I've ever driven has this issue or a company that didn't stand behind their customers. I don't understand what good a power train warranty is if the company doesn't fix the power train problems.

1500 Laramie 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,100 miles

I have had the same problem with my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie I bought it new March 2015 and have had it in the shop 4 different times complaining about the trans shifting hard mostly between 1st and 2nd gear. It either jerks into 2nd gear or most times it feels like it is a manual shift ... between gears there is like a pause, like if you were pushing in a clutch and then jumps to the next gear...the dealerships says nothing comes up on codes. The hell with the codes, that shouldn't give them the right to say " NOTHING WRONG ". Tear into the trans or something and at least check things out HANDS ON computers may not always be right. I need to make another appointment for the same thing in a few weeks. We are thinking we need to somehow talk with someone higher up in Dodge that might finally listen to us ... UGH !!!

1500 Sport 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,953 miles

First shift of the day after starting the truck feels like it hops from 1st to 2nd gear, took it to dealer and their solution was to flash computer with new shifting points, did not help one bit...more of an annoyance then anything at this point but I have driven newer Chevys and never experienced anything like it, dealer acts like it's not a issue. Same issue on a 2014 Ram 1500 that my friend owns, first shift is like a hop to 2nd gear.

1500 Laramie 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 800 miles

Every since I bought this truck in Sept 2015 I have had problems with the transmission shifting very hard, and clunking. I have taken back to dealer 7 times and each time they said there was not an issue except the last time I took it in. They said transmission was sending out bad codes and supposedly they reset but has not resolved the problem.

Update from Jul 4, 2017: In shop again for 9th time. Ram Corporate involved not that it will do any good. Transmission getting worse. There is so many things wrong with it hard to list all.

1500 EX 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,000 miles

Same problem as the last two times reported and now becoming very sluggish when pushing on the gas pedal, you can feel motor going higher RPM and then transmission catches up. sending truck back to dealership today.

Update from Apr 12, 2016: just got the truck back from the dealership. They found nothing wrong, but reset the transmission computer and throttle sensor. My wife feels I am getting the run around and she most likely is right. If it happens again could be time for lemon law.

1500 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

transmission shifts real hard when downs at hwy speed

Transmission is not acceptable and the dealer thinks that as long as it doesn't throw a code just drive it!!! I say we don't settle because the dealer says so. I have had this in twice and this time they rebuilt the trans. Will know soon if its fixed. I had the service writer in the vehicle she felt it. They do not know what to do to fix it. If not fixed this time I am filling a formal complaint with Ram. I should niot have to settle for this when I purchase a new truck!!!! My old ford didn't do this maybe I just need to buy it back and drop the new one off to the dealer so they can settle for sub par equipment!!!!!!!!!!
