Vehicle began intermittently "popping" or "jerking" while driving and would have gear issues such as appearing to remain in 1st gear or would fail to go into reverse. The popping into a lower gear would happen while the vehicle was moving and thus caused an immediate traffic slowdown and potential accident situation. Also, the vehicle would fail to reverse at time and would only remedy itself after turning the vehicle off and then back on. The check engine light would intermittently come on and off and almost a year ago, I was advised by the dealer (tallahassee Dodge) that there was a gear ratio issue. However, when I received the vehicle I was told that another sensor had a leak and there was no indication of a transmission issue (at 55K miles). Now, the vehicle has been having the same intermittent issues and I have returned it to the dealer for repair, now the dealer states the vehicle is out of warranty and the issue is an internal transmission problem that needs to have a new transmission installed.

The "service electronic throttle control" light as well as the "cel" illuminate and the vehicle goes in to limp mode. I had this issue at 3100 miles and it left the vehicle inoperable until a dealership performed a programming flash. Now at 31100 miles the issue has happened again nearly causing me to get T-boned due to the limp mode causing a significant power reduction. The truck has been sitting at the dealership for four days now without any further communication from them. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed by Ram, my truck has the ecodiesel engine. I have found many other complaints on this same issue across the Fiat/ Chrysler lineup.

My truck has a manufacturing date of 11/17 and only has 37K miles on the truck. Randomly my truck went into a "limp mode" and a check engine light for electronic throttle control service light came on. I was driving down university drive in huntsville, al at roughly 45mph accelerating up a small incline. The 'limp mode' is extremely unsafe and restricts the ability to accelerate or drive at a normal pace. Had this happened on the highway or pulling out (what would normally be safe) into traffic and my ability to accelerate was effected it could have caused serious safety concerns. I take my 13-week old daughter to and from daycare in this truck and it has become unsafe. When taken to the dealer, they originally notated that it was just a software update. I late get a call that the egr cooler had gone out, but would not be covered under warranty. The service advisor told me they had 6 other ecodiesel vehicles in for the same issue in the last week. I called the dealer I bought it from and they had one in the shop in for the same exact problem. I then started doing research and found that the egr cooler is a huge issue for these trucks and fca refuses to address it. I called the fca and they eventually agreed to replace the truck on 'good will' after I paid a deductible. Fca needs to put a recall on these vehicles and fix the egr issues. Now there are reports that the valves are sticking and causing the egr to cause a fire. Purchasing dealer: University cdjr in rome, ga servicing dealer: Landers mclarty cdjr in huntsville,

Concern #1: intermittently, upon initial start up, the engine makes a loud clattering noise as if it has no oil in it. The dealership was able to duplicate the concern once but it is not bad enough to repair. Concern #2: while coming to a slow rolling stop (as if coming to a known stop sign) there is a hard bang/clunk just before getting to a complete stop, it feels like you are being hit in the rear by another car. As you slowly accelerate it bangs/clunks again hard. The bang can be felt and heard, and only happens on slow stops, not when you have to stop quickly. The vehicle is currently at the dealership for the third time regarding this same concern. The dealership reprogrammed the transmission and a transmission valve body was replaced but it has not fixed the concern. This bang is so bad that it is hard that I fear driving it in stop and go traffic.

Every once in a while, when I change gears, it will not go in, it will just flash. I so far, can change to another selection, such as drive and the vehicle will move. This happened once in my driveway, tried numerous things and would not work in reverse. I called dealer and they told me to bring it in. They had it towed. After arrival, it worked. I went online and discovered numerous entries from people as far back as 2013, who have experienced the same problem, some times in drive and sometimes in reverse, like mine. Some said they were driving and at a stoplight. The second time it happened to me was at the grocery store parking lot, I was pulling into a parking spot, stopped to back up and straighten out, put it in reverse, all it would is flash. Tied up the parking lot for approximately 40 minutes. Finally it worked.

The contact owned a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was stationary with the possibility of it being in the park position. The contact mentioned that he was distracted taking photographs at the time when the brake pedal was released and began to exit the vehicle. As the contact attempted to exit, the vehicle rolled away causing the driver to fall out the vehicle and hit his head on the ground. As a result of the fall, the contact had a vague memory as to the exact events that took place. The vehicle rolled over a 400 feet cliff. When the driver fell out of the vehicle, he was unconscious for an unknown amount of time, sustained an ankle, cracked head, and fractured hip injuries. Medical attention was not sought. The contact had to limp a few miles on foot to a cell phone site and contacted the highway patrol. The police was present and a report was issued number: 9730-2019-01017. No ambulance or fire department present. The vehicle was towed out the cliff line which took 8 hours to complete and was taken to an impound lot. The insurance company picked it up afterwards. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the apparent failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18V100000 (power train). The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. While driving between 35-75 mph, "service shifter" appeared on the instrument panel and all of the warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the trailer hitch and electrical system failed. The vehicle was towed to lithia Dodge Ram (301 N. earl rudder fwy, bryan tx 77802) where it was diagnosed that one of the electrical sensors got wet underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired and a new sensor was installed; however, the failure later recurred. The vehicle was repaired four times for the same failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 21,000.

5 days after having the truck in for regular maintenance and recalls... I took the truck through an automated car wash. I have taken it to this same car wash several times. I put the truck in neutral, as instructed by the attendant. At the end of the wash, when the green light came on, I put it into drive. It did not move. I tried many times, but without success. Finally the manager came to help me, and he too witnessed that it would not move. We put it into park, and then into drive, two more times before it finally jerked forward. In the meantime, I was hit by the truck behind me, and set off a chain of 5 vehicles colliding. The gear dial said I was in drive each time, but clearly, I was not. I am taking it back to the dealership first thing in the morning.

While at the boat ramp, pulling a boat out of the water. The truck was on an incline. The boat was about 1200 - 1500 pounds total. The truck was in park, parking brake engaged. Sitting in the cab with the seat belt on and the door ajar, placing the transmission in drive, after the transmission engaged I increased the RPM slightly with the gas pedal and then released the parking brake. This has always been the normal procedure that prevents the rig from rolling backward. When I did this and added more throttle the truck started to move forward but then quickly disengaged from park to N, the truck started to roll backwards and the RPM increased. I was able to apply the brake and stop. This repeated several times. The instrument cluster flashed a warning that the truck was not in park. I believe there is a flaw in the auto park feature. It is repeatable. Incline, door ajar, belt on, from park to drive. On flat ground I can not duplicate.

I was parked on an unpaved flat campground road.truck would not go from park to reverse, so after warning lights on dash advised to return to park, I followed instructions. Then again tried reverse and the truck jumped into drive causing it to go into a small pond. After which the vehicle would no longer change into any gear. This vehicle has had multiple recalls and we have taken it in twice for the transmission recall only to be told nothing was wrong.

#1. with 21K mi. The service airbag system came on.it it stayed on for 5-7 sec and went off. It was intermittent at first but now it has been doing the same 2 or 3 times per minute. #2 the tailgate latch malfunctions at times and the tailgate falls by itself. It has done this while driving and sitting stationary after locking it with the key fob. #3 both front windows are equipped with an auto up feature. This feature has come and home in both front windows. At the time it works but it happens irregularly. #4 the transmission doesn't shift well after coasting as in on the highway. It almost seems to bog down and I have to put some weight on the accelerator to get it to respond. No codes have been thrown for the transmission so far. #5 the knob on the far left drivers vent fell off.
