The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the contact attempted to avoid crashing into a bicyclist and depressed the brake pedal however, the brakes failed to engage. As a result, the front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into a tree; before the crash, there was an abnormal sound whenever the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the "Service Anti-Lock Brake System" message was intermittently displayed on the instrument panel. There was severe cosmetic damage. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained shoulder and back pain injuries due to the impact and received medical treatment for the injuries. No one who was not in the vehicle was injured. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V653000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control). The vehicle was taken back to the place of residence; a dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
