2500 LT 6.7L

3C6UD5HL8CG289427. In August of this year, 2015, I purchased a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500, Longbed 4wd, 6.7l Diesel engine, with 62,500 miles on the odometer. It was a one owner, California vehicle purchased from Truckmasters in Phoenix, AZ. At initial inspection, everything looked to be in excellent shape from an exterior view. The interior had a couple of blemishes, and an initial test drive warranted the truck to be in excellent shape. Everything worked and there were no visible signs of any issues with the drivetrain or electrical systems.

After the purchase, and about a week after I brought the vehicle home, it began making a low humming sound with a noticeable vibration during driving. Two days after noticing the issues, they became extremely noticeable. I then put the vehicle into 4wd, and began to drive the vehicle, at such time the drivetrain made a horrible knocking sound. Being very knowledgeable about the mechanics of vehicles, I thought there may be an issue with the drivetrain. At that point I took it to my local Dodge dealer who notified me that both of my driveshafts w/u-joints were in such bad shape that they needed to be completely replaced, and that my 4wd capability was completely diminished. I had the work performed under warranty.

A few weeks after the drivetrain repair, my check engine light began to come on periodically, and the vehicle would completely cut out with no throttle response while driving, also throwing EGR codes. I took the truck to my dealership to discover that the EGR valve was failing. That was replaced under warranty.

A few weeks after that repair, my windshield wiper fluid motor and transfer case indicator light stopped working. Additionally, the check engine light came on throwing up to six different codes for several different issues. I took it back to my dealership to discover that the PCM was not talking to either sensor (transfer case, windshield fluid motor), and that the PCM was malfunctioning. The entire PCM was replaced under extended warranty.

Now we are only a few months into owning the vehicle, and I will have to place the truck back into the shop for a malfunctioning Electronic Trailer brake which may or may not be covered under warranty. I have also had the steering column wiring harness recall done recently while the truck was at the dealership to trouble shoot my malfunctioning trailer brake system, and I haven’t even towed anything yet. The reoccurring issues with this truck are becoming very inconvenient for me and my business, and are becoming safety issues. I am consistently losing time from work, and from valuable clientele.

For a truck of this year, condition, and mileage, there should be absolutely no issues with the exception of regular maintenance. I don’t know what will fail next. It could very well be a major system that jeopardizes the safety of me and my passengers. I request that something be done by the manufacturer to rectify what I am experiencing with this newer low mileage diesel truck.
