Upon starting the trucks engine, putting the transmission in gear (either Reverse or Drive), at idle engine speed (approx 700-800 rpm) or very low (near idle speed) the trucks engine starts to surge from idle then drops down to 500 rpms with a voltage drop (5V) too. It will do this a couple of times and then the trucks engine dies (engine stops) while in gear and no codes are shown on the CEL or saved in the vehicle control module. When I put the transmission in Park, the trucks engine restarts without a problem. But when I go to Drive or Reverse gear it then will do it again. The truck sounds like the engine brake is being applied causing the engine to lug/bog down. The torque converter has been inspected and replaced. The fuel pump/lifter has been replaced. The batteries have been replaced. The fuel filters have been serviced; the crank case breather has been serviced. The emissions controls equipment (EGR valve) have been serviced/cleaned. Knowing that my trucks engine can cut out/die at anytime at low rpms, poses a safety hazard. Knowing that the truck can do this without a code being throw feels unsafe.

The part that failed the first time was transmission module. We were 12-13 hrs from home when 2500 tried to engage 4wd while truck was moving approx 55 mph. While pulling horse trailer. It tried to engage 3 times during repetitive stops along narrow highway. Truck was making loud grinding noise during the attempts to engage 4wd while moving. Truck failure on highway with NO shoulder with NO option but to stop put whole rig in danger of collision. After internet research we pulled appropriate fuse & drove into park. Upon return home 2500 was driven to Russell Barnett Dodge for inspection and repair. Cost to us $721.05 due to no warranty. 4wd service lite appeared while trying to engage. After repair, and approx 200 miles later during an out of state trip pulling horse trailer, the 2500 service lite appeared, and the truck tried to engage 4wd at 65 mph on interstate highway with the same noise. Again pulled fuse and continued trip. We have logged each event with Ram corporate and obtained case numbers. They did not feel this was a safety issue, was not covered under warranty, and our responsibility. So the first repair did NOT work and failed again 2nd time. Ram still would not cover repair & dealer repair shop is saying it-??s a different module. But all symptoms were identical from first event. We feel this is a safety issue - on highways pulling a trailer and potentially becoming a moving obstacle for other drivers if the truck had engaged 4wd at high speed.

Transmission 68rfe loses power due to the accumulator retention plates screws becoming loose, falling into the oil pan which results in the accumulator retention plate to deform and the pistons to dislodge resulting in immediate power loss. This occurred while driving in traffic at 50 mph requiring me to take evasive action to avoid collisions with other commuters.

This is third time reporting/asking for assistance...... please reference to case # 11348377 from about 7 August and reference to case number 11352009 filed this month. I have received zero feedback on this matter and would like to know why ? furthermore, I have researched on the NHTSA web site for similar problems related to my 2 previous attempts to reach you. From 2014 - 2018 model year, there were numerous complaints filed with NHTSA regarding premature transmission failure on Ram 2500/3500 trucks with the 68rfe transmission. And 3-4 months ago, a recall was issued....20V043000 addressing the same problems that I experienced with my truck, a 2014 Ram 2500 with 68rfe. I asked for support in that you engage with Ram about these failures that I and other have reported on your web site. Furthermore, am hoping you folks are not gullible enough to believe Ram on current recall that says transmission fluid can come out of the dipstick tube and the corrective action is to replace the seperator plate in the valve body !!! while the engine is running, oil will continue to cycle thru transmission and cooler...... highly unlikely it will come out of dipstick tube because the seperator plate gasket failed. What is most likely to happen is what I experienced, that when the seperator plate failed, hydraulic pressure is suddenly lost at certain vales in the valve body simultaneously routing hydraulic pressure where its not supposed to go resulting in accumulator piston failure and eventually complete valve body failure resulting in total transmission failure. Please don't allow Ram to " bs " you by saying oil will come out of the dipstick tube and why then I ask, per the recall letter, this has nothing to do with re-programming the PCM ! my transmission failure occured while driving at about 30 mph when without warning, threw multiple dtc's. I need help from you !!!

Also there was no movement in any gears. I go push car from any gear.!took to a shop and they said could be a factory defect. The spindales on transfer case and transmission output shaft wore down with rust and water. So far cost is 1900 of repairs. Need to be fixed asap

Please refer to tracking number 11348377, you assigned that to my original complaint with no feedback or updates. Now you have issued recall number 20V043000 which addresses the exact same problem in my initial complaint/concern. The real problem that Ram wont tell you is that when the seperator plate in valve body fails, the hydraulic pressure goes places its not supposed to causing accumulator pistons to activate at wrong times causing catastrophic failure as I experienced while driving at only 57K miles. As I previously stated in original complaint, this faulty plate in valve body has existed for many years with numerous costs from many customers. It is my opinion that I highly recommend you folks engage with Ram and justify extending this recall to at least the 2014 model year with repair cost reimbursed to original owners. This failure lead to a cost of $4700 including warranty that I should not have had to pay had Ram been more consumer minded all these years. Perhaps not enough people have complained about this particular problem but this definitely needs more attention applicable back to the 2014 model year if not earlier. Thank you

Vehicle has 57K miles and transmission achieved complete failure. Traveling at about 35mph, going straight in city traffic and mil light came on, initial code read showed 3 faults in transmission. Specific diagnosis was grim and final diagnosis by transmission clinic validated total transmission failure. This vehicle was purchased new on July 14 2014 and has been meticulously maintained per owners manual during warranty period. Internet research found numerous articles about the 68rfe transmission having a poorly designed valve body that allows high pressure fluid to be routed to multiple clutches simultaneously resulting in catastrophic failure that I experienced. I have no doubt that based on this generation of 68rfe transmission, that Ram was fully aware of potential defects/failure yet has taken no action to initiate inspections and/or repairs and request that the NHTSA initiate contact with Ram and discuss this matter. Repairs are in progress at " transmission clinic " in Colorado springs, Colorado 3875 interpark dr, 719-471-0777 with an estimated cost of $4500.

Started up my truck to go to town, engine came on about 5 min in the drive so I took it straight to O'reillys where they did the scan and the computer said misfire in cylinder 3. so we changed the spark plugs and took it back to reset the light, started it back up and light came on again with same explanation. So we parked the vehicle until we could find what was going on, talked to a mechanic and he said probably the cam/lifter problem, he looked at the vehicle seen I had a dropped valve seat(very odd for just starting up a vehicle) so we called Dodge and they insisted they had to diagnosis it so we paid a towing company to haul it to them. Dodge called me back and said dropped valve seat but also cam/lifters need replaced. I dont see how Dodge can just say it's on you to fix with this many vehicle owners all having the same problem. This is expensive fixes but not only that I have a truck with a loan payment that I cannot drive till it's fixed.

Driving in my neighborhood about 20 mph coming up to a stop sign hear this howling noise if you will. Then when I hear it instantly something grabbed and locked and stopped me! I've been having issues with my transmission slipping, well not slipping but between gears. Like the rpms were going up but nothing was moving. I'm not talking about the RPM gauge on the truck going up, it's just a rev up sound. Then will catch and go I'm guessing it's all with the transmission. I'm just glad I was only doing 20 mph instead of hwy speed when it locked

On December 21st, 2018 I took my truck to a car wash. Following the initial cleaning the attendant placed the truck in neutral, exited the truck, engaged the track mechanism and walked back to the next truck in line. I was in the glassed in area watching. Without warning the truck went to full throttle racing through the car wash tunnel and hitting a Toyota van waiting to be moved to the next cleaning point. I watched as the attendant tried to race down the tunnel after the truck. Just as the truck struck the van he entered and put the truck in park. The engine slowed from full throttle to what appeared to be normal. I filed a complaint with Chrysler. They had a third party run a diagnostic program on my truck. They sent the information to Chrysler engineers. I received a phone call telling me Chrysler was not responsible for the incident. I have written them again telling them I thought their investigation was incomplete since they spoke to no one on staff at the car wash or review the video of the event. They implied the problem was caused by after market mats. Since I was present and observed the incident, I am not satisfied with that explanation and have asked them to state to me in writing my truck is safe to drive. I do not anticipate that happening as I believe they are playing a classic game of cya. There is a video of the event as it happened.

I have been receiving a fault code on my truck for "electronic throttle control" I take it to an auto parts store and dealership to only be told no codes are present, even when they see the light on the dash. Since having the code pop up my fuel consumption has increased drastically. My avg mpg went from 14.6mpg to 10.2mpg, with the same driving conditions and same route that I have driven the last 4 years. I have had both the dealership and auto parts store clear the codes that are present, the light goes out. But will return within minutes of driving. But yet no fault codes for it specifically. I have searched the net for this issue and have found several articles on multiple Dodge, Ram and crystler vehicles doing this same issue with the dealership telling them the same thing. For me to be consuming a larger amount of fuel with driving the same route and conditions this has to be doing something drastic and damaging to the emission and engine.
