problem #2

2500 Laramie 6.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,200 miles

I start up... truck would run idle wildly. Able to drive the truck for a few minutes. Service electronic throttle light would come on. After that, the truck would basically go into a limp mode. No response when pushing gas peddle. Coast to a stop, turn off truck. Wait for a minute, start and repeat same as above. I was able to make it to the dealership a couple miles away by doing this.

Dealer first replaced PCM. Didn't fix the problem. No codes appearing on their computer. They tested the compression. Low compression in multiple cylinders. No metal flakes in the oil. Dealer said I needed a new engine.

engine has loss of power, misfire

The engine first started losing power pulling a travel trailer up a hill. Before this time we had no problems with the truck. I took it into the Dodge dealer the next week and the diagnosis was a misfire in #5 cylinder & there were metal shavings on the lifter. The lifters were worn. The cam shaft was wore down. The estimate was $10,000 for a new engine. The technician said it was not repairable & it needed a new engine. The vehicle has 135,000 miles on it.
