Dealer said that the DEF system pump had failed. They are trying to make a determination if the failure is due to contamination or pump failure. The dealer will warranty the pump if there is no evidence of contamination.

I am beginning to think the DEF system is poorly designed. The Internet is full of stories about people eliminating the entire EGR/DPF system because it can't be fixed. That is illegal. But, I can no longer depend on this truck and it is costing my thousands of dollars for a vehicle that is simply driven to and from work each day.

Driving home after receiving Dealer Service on Fuel Filters, Def Fil & Oil, I see the dreaded Def system needs service, Vehicle shutting down to 5MPH in 200 Miles. Then the countdown starts. The Vehicle was returned the following day & was diagnosed with 206 Error code. Dealer called later in the day advising that def pump was no longer providing output & would need to be replaced. Line & Def check cleaned. I'm puzzled as to why this occurred concurrently with the service. Hopefully there is a connection though the Mechanics at the shop are usually pretty competent. I hoping because this problem can't happen again ever! I replaced a power stroke with the Cummins because being stuck in the middle of no where with horses in tow in addition to being difficult to resolve is expensive & dangerous to animals. After the 2nd time I got stranded with the Ford, I returned to Cummins, & quite frankly I'm running out of brands.

My 2015 Ram 6.7 Cummings with 20000 miles has trouble coded 4 times dealing with the DEF low pressure code. The first time it reset its self before I could get it to the dealer. The second time I brought it to the dealer and was told there was an upgrade to the system that fixed the problem.

This week my check engine light came on and the service soon on the screen. The dealer pulled the DEF pump and inspected. No issues were found and the code was reset. After raising hell they kept the truck overnight and replaced the pump and module. I picked up my truck this afternoon and before I could drive 20 miles the engine light came on. I drove back to the dealer. This time it was the heater sensor on the new pump they just installed.

The code was reset and the technician showed me my old pump and explained the issues. I was told if it happens again to bring at back and they would change out the pump again. It seems this is a very common issue for Dodge DEF vehicles. My last truck purchase before this one was in 1999. F250 7.3 power stroke and I still drive it weekly. I have over 300000 miles and the only thing I've ever done is installed another clutch.

I went with Dodge this time only because 2015 Ford Super Duties was having so many issues with the turbo. I love my truck but I'm to the point that if this happens again I'm going to start looking at the lemon law. When you pay over 50K for a truck it shouldn't have these issues. What happens when my warranty runs out. Is Dodge going to make it good due to all the issues I'm having? Seriously thinking about buying a rice burner next time.
