The hydraulic control unit for the antilock braking system failed, causing a repeated dinging and loss of all antilock, breaking traction control, and cruise control capabilities. Dealership quotes parts are almost a year out, and I will be stuck driving the vehicle in an unsafe manner until it is repaired.

ABS and Traction Control lights and associated chime intermittently (but relentlessly) turn on/off/on. This happened while towing a trailer in mountains and disabled my ABS, traction control and cruise control. This 2018 Ram 2500 4x4 has only 17,100 miles. The codes C2200 and C0020 that it shows, according to Ram, require an ABS module and hydraulic control unit. The latter is unavailable and even if it was, is known to fail again regularly within a couple of years. This is a HUGE safety issue we need help fixing.

1. ABS/Electric Stability Control service antilock brakes lights flicker on and off. 2. When ABS light is on you could lose control of brakes due to possibility of wheels locking up. 3. Went to the dealer twice to correct the problem and still having the same issue. 4. The vehicle was inspected and worked on by Ram Dealer. 5. No warning lights before failure.

I have been trying to get my vehicle with 17 k miles repaired since May 2023, and to date the parts, ABS Module and HCU pump are not available. Winter is fast approaching and my ABS light continues to flash also disabling the cruise control. The constant dinging is very annoying and driving the vehicle continues to be very aggravating. I have repeatedly contacted my local dealer and they continue to push out the date when parts will be available. They are not able to confirm engineering design review due in February 2024 when parts might be available. Really! Would it be possible for NHTSA to advise me on maybe when a solution to this problem might happen.

My dashboard keeps flashing -??Service Antilock Brake System-?? and -??Service Electronic Braking System-??. The warning or notification goes out and comes back almost every time you hit a slight bump in the road or even if you don't. Seems to be very intermittent. Cruise control goes out when the lights are on and the truck lurches a bit. The dings and lights flashing are very annoying. Took it in to my local dealer and they checked the electronic codes and found a new module is $510 and NO ETA to dealer and the HCU is $262 and not available until 2/21/24!!! Total to install will be $800+ NOT covered under any warranty. They tell me it's not dangerous to drive since I can still brake....REALLY"?" No ABS brakes seems to ba a severe problem to me. There is a class action lawsuit about this in CA: The FCA Ram defect class action lawsuit is Neu, et al. v. FCA US LLC, et al., Case No. 5:23-cv-00509, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

While driving the ABS warning light, and traction control light illuminated, along with a chime. The messages "Service Anti-Lock Braking System", and "Service Electronic Braking System" showed on the dashboard screen. These warnings would come and go very frequently while driving, each time with an audible chime. At times, this would happen every 4-5 seconds, making it very difficult to concentrate on the road. Sometimes the messages would be gone for 1-2 hours but would always return. When the warnings were present, the truck would have no ABS, traction control, or cruise control available. This made towing a trailer much more dangerous. My truck was out of warranty but only had around 33,000 miles at the time. The local Ram dealer replaced the ABS module, as well as the brake hydraulic control unit. The problem has not returned. I have since learned from the online community that this is a very common problem and think it's something the NHTSA should look at. Due to the frequency of which these failures are occurring, a lot of owners aren't able to get their vehicle fixed because of the increased demand on the parts required.

Continued failure of hydraulic control unit (HCU) and Anti-lock brake system (ABS) module causing fluctuations in brakes at times (have to press harder on brakes) and lights go on and off, sometimes staying on for lengthy periods (usually on highway) or while driving and disables the cruise control. Second time in just under 3 years (fixed in Nov 2020 and reported to dealer Sept 2023), same issue on parts both time, fix identified as faulty HCU and ABS module as dealer identified issue and placed order for parts (5 month backorder to Feb 2024 as apparently very common issue with these trucks). The issue is both the change in brake sensitivity due to this part failure and the sudden cancellation of cruise control, the braking impacts the braking performance and cruise control drop out causing sudden drop in speed on highways.

The truck started intermittently throwing code for C0020-01 (service Antilock Brake system). I will intermittently lose ABS/Cruise/trailer brakes, and being the primary vehicle in our family, the truck has become unsafe to transport my wife and 7 months old child. I've aware the HCU/ABS module both need replaced, but some of these parts aren't available from the dealer, and it will be multiple thousand dollars to repair IF they ever get the parts in. This is a known, very dangerous, safety issue that FCA need to address.

problem #813

The truck has a faulty antilock brake hydraulic assembly. The ABS and Traction control warning lights illuminate intermittently, especially when hitting bumps in the road. When the lights are in the ABS brakes and traction control systems are not available. The trouble code in the ABS module is for an open circuit in the ABS pump motor. When the issue occurs and the lights are on the ABS brakes and traction control do not function correctly. I am a professional automotive diagnostician that owns a vehicle diagnostic business and I am also a college instructor for automotive courses. So please understand this issue was diagnosed properly. I have diagnosed the issue to an open circuit internally to the ABS pump motor which is part of the ABS hydraulic assembly. The motor was disassembled and Inspected after all of the external circuits were properly diagnosed and no issues were found with any associated external wiring or controls. It was found that the brushes in the motor assembly that contact the commutator inside the motor are sticking in the brush holders. This sticking of the brushes in the brush holder cause the brushes to lose contact with the motor rotor which then causes the code to set and the lights to illuminate. This is more apt to happen when the motor is shaken by the movement of the vehicle hitting bumps causing the commutator to move away from the brushes which are sticking in the brush holders. This in turn sets the motor circuit open code. I have diagnosed this same issue for several other repair shops in my area. All of the involved trucks are 2018 Ram 2500. They all have the same exact issue.
