Complaint already filed. Have been waiting on HCU module and ABS module for over 1 year. Intermittent braking issue, and trouble code is constantly going off. Called dealer every 3 months and no part available. They say it is an engineering hold by Ram. Latest update is to check back 2/2024.

The ABS and traction control systems on our 2018 2500 RAM truck are failing randomly, and the warning lights are coming on. The cruise control system is also randomly failing. Therefore, as we drive the vehicle and using cruise control the vehicle will randomly turn off the system causing safety concerns. The braking system and traction safety systems are not working properly and safely. The cruise control issues have been occurring for about 2 to 3 months. Over the last 1 to 1.5 months the ABS and traction control systems have started randomly failing and turning on the warnings lights and bell. We took the vehicle in for service today at the RAM dealer and was informed that the parts are backordered and unknown when any parts would be available. The dealer confirmed the systems are not functioning properly and provided written estimates and summaries of their findings. The dealer advises to replace the HCU and retest the system. The dealer advised to replace the steering wheel wiring and cruise control switch. The vehicle mileage at the time of the dealer evaluations was 23,052 miles.

I have had an ongoing issue with the ABS & ESP warning and warning light coming on and off. I took it into the dealership and they told me I needed to replace the ABC controller & hydraulic control unit. I don't understand why this isn't a recall or covered by RAM. I am afraid the brakes are going to fail putting my life and others in peril. I was told the repair would cost me $1200 so I have had to park the vehicle.

On or about September 2023 this vehicle, with 94k miles, has had its 2nd ABS/HBU failure. This causing the ABS and traction control lights to flash on and off with audible alarm then continuous illumination. We as a consumer buy these heavy duty vehicles to use for pulling trailers and heavy loads, It is no longer safe to do this when there is an imminent threat of brake failure. This can cause the consumer to be out financially in many ways. This component was previously inspected and replaced in 2020, with roughly 20k miles, by the dealer I purchased the truck from. Currently I have been unsuccessful locating and OEM replacement part causing the vehicle to be parked. This is a well known and documented issue on 17-18 Ram 2500-3500 heavy duty trucks that the consumer would like remedied for the safety of themselves, their families and others on the road around them.

The ABS system is not working. The warning lights for ABD and skid prevention are lit. During hard breaking the tires will lock up and slide. This also turns off the cruise control.

ABS CONTROL MODULE light stays on and dealer says the module is defected and has to be replaced at a cost of around $2600. No parts are available due to UAW strike. Told to drive it as is cause parts may not be available till January. I feel Ram corporation should be responsible for cost to repair vehicle only has 46000 miles. Thank you

The Antilock Braking System is faulty. The Service Braking System is faulty. I was trailering under load when I had to apply breaks due to a road hazard. My Antilock Braking system did not function properly and my tires locked up. My vehicle was in a slide while trailering a load. Fortunately I was able to maintain control and avoid an accident. I had previously contacted my dealer about the warning light constantly alerting me that I needed to service the Antilock Braking System and the Service Brake System. I was told by the Service Department and Steele Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Gonzales, TX that they were aware of the issues with the HCU on 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500. They stated that there were no replacement parts available and that I should continue driving my vehicle with the Warnings constantly going off on my dash. I am not happy about this situation and feel a resolution needs to be formulated by the manufacturer. I am aware now of many complaints regarding this part issue with this make and model. I rely on my vehicle for my livelihood. I cannot drive my vehicle as it was designed to be driven as per the manufacturer's design.

ABS and stability control failure. First intermittent then continuous. Dealership said the problem is the HCU solely from my description. Known problem. They also said replacement parts not available to order until at least February 2024. I believe a recall is warranted.

Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has failed, causing repeated ABS and traction control warning lights with audible chimes. Vehicle is currently at the dealer to try and fix the issue. This first occurred during a long road trip with no prior issues or signs of a problem. The first time it occurred, I was towing a trailer and on cruise control. When the dash lights and audible chime went off, it kicked me out of cruise control, which immediately caused the vehicle to slow while in traffic at highway speeds. While researching this issue recently, it seems this is a common and well known issue with Ram trucks of similar year and model, with no recalls being issued.

This is now my second ABS module that has failed. I gave a detailed description of the brushes getting stuck in the valve body motor. This particular situation is exactly the same as before. Intermittent on/off of the traction control ABS and stability system. I have not disassembled this particular unit because of the part being unavailable. Tapping on the motor itself will make the fault go away which leads me to believe that it's similar same failure. The tapping motion allows the brush to move forward and touch the commutator. I still have the original motor from my initial failure analysis. If it would be of any use, you're more than welcome to reach out and I will be glad to ship it to you. This is a serious safety problem because you never know if the system is working or not.

Check engine lights came on flashing -??service abs-?? and -?? break system malfunction -??. Took to dealer and had to have HCU ( hydraulic control unit) for ABS system replaced.. it was a dangerous situation as the trailer brakes were rendered useless, as was the cruise control. The breaks still worked but not the ABS part, so could possibly lock up and loose control during an emergency event.

This is the second complaint filed for the same issue. Tracking number 11441949. I understand there is an investigation open for this issue. PE 22-012. Opened 11/28/22. My truck was repaired under warranty December of 2021 It has failed again in September of 2023. after less than 2 years and 20,000 miles. The ABS/Traction control system as well as cruise control unexpectedly without warning stops working. Since I use my truck to tow heavy trailers this is not a very good scenario. The alarm and warning on the dash at times repeatedly and randomly sounds while driving. When this occurs I have no ABS function, or hill decent control. The Hydraulic Control Unit Part #68143491aa is the part that failed and was replaced under warranty. It has since been obsoleted by Ram and replaced by a different part #. Was this because they knew they had a problem? At any rate, I am left to pay to have this fixed again and worry about when it might fail the next time.

My truck has the same issue as many thousands of other RAM owners. The forums are full of people with the same issue. It clearly is a faulty part/design or similar. My "check ABS/ Traction Control- Brake light" turns on and off intermediately all the time. It is an issue many have had and had fixed for between $800-1,000.00. For your reference here are some links to forums showing this issue in fact a OEM problem. Apparently there are class action law suits going on in Texas and California over this matter. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] There are many more. RAM should have to furnish a recall and fix this issue at no cost. Parts are not available until February of 2024. This is a safety concern!! This issue will not allow the use of cruise control or remote start. Winter is coming and im not sure the ABS works as long as the light is on. RAM needs to supply parts faster than Feb 2024 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 which has been throwing an error code for the last year to service the electronic braking system. The dealer says it is the HCU and it is a known problem and that the manufacturer will not have a fix till mid 2024. Meanwhile my truck is not drivable as it is a significant safety hazard. The dealer says it is now out of warranty and I will be responsible for replacement costs when the manufacturer finds a solution. I live in Michigan and I now can-??t drive my truck as it is a safety hazard and I can-??t sell it cause nobody will buy it with this issue. The constant flashing of the -??Service Electronic Braking System-?? code and constant dinging when the light comes on also makes the truck undrivable. Meanwhile I-??m stuck with no truck.

Intermittent ABS light and Service Electronic Braking System lights coming on and off. Appears from previous reports this is a known issue that has been going on for years now with this vehicle and should be fixed. I purchased a new hydraulic and electronic module from dealer at around 35000 miles and replaced. Issue was fixed or so I thought, at around 70000 miles lights are intermittently on and off again. No known issue was contacting ram direct, dealer I bought vehicle from stated the electronic module is backordered and has already been replaced with another part number, I believe it was a faulty replacement from the get go. Hydraulic module was said to be under engineered testing again per the dealer. Extremely frustrating from the customer end, no cruise, no abs braking capabilities. No known deaths to this point linked to this specific issue to my knowledge but I wonder if Ram will move a little faster on the fix or recall once they have something fatal on their backs for this.
