The contact owns a 2017 Ram 5500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70-75 MPH, there was an abnormally loud banging sound coming from the vehicle. The driver pulled to the side of the roadway and became aware that the transfer case had fractured into several pieces, and the front driveshaft had also fractured in several pieces. The contact stated that the fuel lines and the exhaust pipe were severely damaged. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the fuel lines, brake line, electrical wiring, transfer case, front driveshaft and the entire exhaust system were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 310,000.

The contact stated that the transfer case had fractured and the front driveshaft had failed. The vehicle was towed and remained at the towing lot. The dealer was contacted and informed of the failure however, the vehicle was not towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the failure was a known failure however, the vehicle was not under recall for the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 292,000.
