The engine started to knock, so I immediately pulled off the road and it blew white smoke and shut down. This happens only a few months after the warranty has expired 5 year 100,000 - my ass.
I had to haul the truck back 800 miles, and it is showing turbo codes so I checked the turbo and everything looked good. Now I have been a heavy equipment mechanic for 16 years, white smoke and the loss of antifreeze usually means you shelled a turbo, and the knock is usually a rod or injector. I'm not finding anything, but the biggest bitch - it only has 17,000 miles and not hard miles. It's just out of warranty of course. But the exhaust is clean - no oil or antifreeze????
Update from May 5, 2022: when reputably diesel mechanic tore down the engine he could have pulled the piston in half , it literately fell apart. After the piston was removed found a crack almost the length of the cylinder that would aligned with where the wrist pin would ride.
when the engine was rotated over he found that 2 of 6 piston oilers where broken or gone.
It looked to have extensive wear on the connecting rod bearings for only 17,000 miles.
