Passenger air bag sensor cycles on/off every time the passenger shifts in their seat. The dealer want $1,200+ to repair this $1 part as the system is mis-designed. The passenger air bag will likely not deploy in an accident.

Complaint - module defect: There is a safety hazard associated with the passenger air bag. Owner's manual caution the air bag system may not perform in a crash?and should be serviced"without delay. According to other complaints on your website, this is not an uncommon occurrence or an isolated incident in some GM models. The high cost for correcting this GM malfunction has been imposed on the owners and is beyond the owner's responsibility for standard repairs and upkeep for safety issues associated with this malfunction, there should be a mandated recall.

Passenger airbag indicator light works intermittently when a passenger is in the seat. An approx 125 lbs person sits in the seat and it goes on for a bit and then back off. Concerned that it airbag will not deploy properly in an accident if the sensor is not working. After reading various forums, it seems to be a common problem with the Saturn Aura once over 50K miles.

Aura 6-cyl

  • 5,000 miles
We have owned a 2007 Saturn Aura, VIN [xxx] since it was new. When it had about 5000 miles the service air bag light came on and the passenger air bag went out even though there was a passenger in the seat. A few minutes later the light went out. This would happen off and on but the dealership could never find a code. Recently it began doing it again quiet often and was really intermittent. I tried onstar diagnostics but every time I'd push the onstar button the light would go out and they could never find a code. I took it to our Chevy dealership on Friday and they called me today saying it's a bad passenger detection module. Looking at 'X web site this has been an issue with a lot of these vehicles. Since there's been no recall. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Passenger air bag on/off indicator intermittently turns to "off" even with a passenger weighing in excess of 150 pounds in the seat. Stopping and restarting the car sometimes corrects the issue temporarily. Research shows this is a commonly reported problem and that, in fact, the system will malfunction in an accident. Due to the dangerous nature of this failure, there should be a required recall from GM.

Aura

  • 45,000 miles
"service airbags" light came on 5/12/14. Owner's manual lists this as potential hazard as airbags may fail to deploy or deploy without warning. Took vehicle two blocks from my home to service station station on 5/13/14, but station said they do not work on airbags. Took vehicle home and parked it. Sent E-mail to Saturn's customer service center on 5/14/14, and eventually spoke to a supervisor on 5/17/14. He said that in order for GM to do anything, I would have to take the vehicle to a dealership in fairfax, va. I explained that I do not believe that I should spend any more money on the vehicle as I feel that it is defective. The supervisor said that he would arrange for towing and GM would pay for it. He also stated that I would be reimbursed for repairs or compensated for the loss of the use of the vehicle and that he would work with me "every step of the way." On 5/20/14, I called for the supervisor and someone else returned my call. When I requested that GM provide me with a written document as to how they intended to resolve the issue, I was told that this would have to be discussed with the supervisor and then they would get back to me. They did not call me back all day Monday. I called and left a message on 5/21/14 and they have not responded to me in any way. The vehicle has been parked in my lot since 5/13/14 and I don't know what to do. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because of my own history with it and the recent spate of recalls for similar issues that have involved injury and death. (my vehicle is not currently under recall but does have similar issues to vehicles that are under recall). I don't know what to do. After promising to assist me, GM now will not return my calls.

Aura 6-cyl

  • 13,000 miles
Air bag started coming on intermittently around 13,000 miles. Under warranty, they replaced the weight sensor under the passenger seat. It did nothing. Took it back 4-5 times, but was not acting up while in the shop and they said there was nothing they could do. Finally became reasonably persistent about the same time the warranty was up. They suggested a $1500 fix. When it was pointed out that it was initially diagnosed at 13,000 miles, they were not impressed. No receipt for the return visits due to no charge, and they had no record. Someone is going to die, and this recall (whenever it happens) will cost them just as much and the bad press will be worse. I've been a GM owner for 30 years. Just recently purchased wife an Acura.

The "service air bag" light comes on at times while I am driving my car. Also, the passenger airbag light will switch to "off" (airbag is turned off) even when there is an adult passenger in the seat. It will at times switch back to "on" then switch back to "off" while the passenger remains seated. Several times I have taken the car to a GM dealer and they tell me that since the car is out of warranty I will have to pay about $1,000 to have both air bag problems fixed. Since this is a safety issue, I googled the internet to find out how common this problem is and I was surprised at how many Saturn Aura owners there are with the same problems. Yet, the service dept. At the GM dealer will not acknowledge the fact that there is a widespread problem with the air bags not working on the Saturn Auras. Recently, it was announced that GM was recalling millions of Chevy Impala going back to 2003 because of passenger air bag problems. If GM has to recall 2003 Impala then they should also recall & fix 2007 Saturn Auras with air bag problems - peoples lives are at stake in both cases.

2007 Saturn Aura. Consumer writes in regards to air bag light comes on intermittently and other vehicle problems. The consumer stated the dealer told him to ignore the light or cancel it using the button on the steering wheel. The dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the air bag itself. The problem persisted and eventually, the dealer stated the entire passenger seat needed to be replaced. In June of 2013, when the consumer stopped for gas, the vehicle would not re-start. The vehicle had to be towed 150 miles to the local dealer. The problem was diagnosed as an ignition module. A few days ago, the driver's seat belt would beep 5 times and then a red light on the dash would blink, even though the driver had his seat belt on. Driving along a couple of miles, the beeping noise returned, as well as the red light. The problem was intermittent, but continued on for the remainder of the ride. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, where the problem was determined to be a module in the driver's seat and it would cost $1242 to replace it.
