This is a know Saturn Aura problem, the message will state service airbag followed by an airbag not working, I have had cars with airbags since they were first put on vehicles, I have never had a problem like this. The hard failure does not occur until the car is out of warranty.

Service air bags warning light came on, appears that air bags will not deploy. The car was just started in parking lot of store and was still in park. This represents a major safety issue because it appears that air bags will not deploy if we were involved in a collision. Numerous other Saturn are being recalled for this same issue.

The steering on the car is very tight, meaning it does not turn smoothly. I feel every and any sort of bump the car goes over. When turning it feels as if the car is scrubbing the payment, not a thorough movement. There is also something loose or sounds as if something in the interior or under the hood is rattling or is may come apart. The dealership I purchased it from is saying that the sway bar and end links need to be replaced or tightened. Also, my air bag light popped on saying it needed to be serviced.... I have no idea about this alert on my display!!they explained to me it happens over time, however from reading other Saturn car owner's reviews this is a recurring complaint amongst many others. It is or was the top luxury sedan when it came out and it would appear the suspension would be a lot smoother on a sedan. Unhappy with results and I feel the history of car was not revealed at time of purchase. The repair bill estimate is around $500 and that is a lot of expense....there is another review referencing to the struts or type of strut to use should be the one made by Chevy. Frustrated and confused in memphis, tn!!

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while starting the ignition, the front passenger seat occupant off indicator illuminated although a passenger was present in the seat at the weight of 112 pounds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician advised that the passenger presence system module would need to be replaced and was unable to provide an estimated weight requirement for the front passenger seat in order for the air bag to register that the seat was occupied. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.

2007 Saturn Aura. Consumer writes in regards to passenger air bag status light malfunction. The light indicated the passenger airbag was "off", came on at times when there was an adult passenger in the seat. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer three times without a resolution. He contacted General Motors about the problem, and their answer was take it back to the dealer. The consumer stated there could be a safety issue. He researched the internet and found the problem was reported numerous times on this model as well as other GM models. The consumer stated to remedy the situation, he must stop the car, turn ignition switch off, and re-start the vehicle. Updated 04/16/14

When an adult (over 100 pounds) sits in front passenger seat the light on the dash indicating the passenger air bag is on/off switches from on to off and back on etc. The timing between an on to off episode varies from seconds to many minutes. Thus passenger not protected by airbag. Took car to Buick/GMC dealer and they replaced parts dealing with the weight sendor in the from passenger seat: They are: 20824277 module kit 19118733 connector (required because above module was redesigned) 25864887 heater cost over $1000.

I have had problems with this car since shortly after purchase, most of which have never been repaired even after several attempts by dealership, passenger airbag turns off even with passenger in seat, heated seats come on by themselves, I gave up on repair of those long ago, but they are minor compared other problems I any several other owners of this car as you can read at edmunds.com consumer discussions, this cannot be coincidence, traction control, water pumps, clunking in the steering column and most recently check engine light issues, which in the process of more than one mechanic/dealership trying to figure out what is wrong with this car I have paid for what I would call unnecessary repairs, finally my local dealership tells me GM has told them the timing chain is stretched, I'm assuming GM knows this because they have other vehicles some 2007 models with a timing chain recall/issues, according to a local mechanic timing chains do not need regular maint. And should last much longer than my 68000 miles, I now need a 3500$$ repair although my local dealership "sympathizes" with me they feel "things just are not made they way they used to be." Just thought I'd join the many others who feel a complaint needed to be filed with GM regarding this vehicle!!!

Identical to the recent airbag related recall initiated at Chrysler, GM has had the same issue on multiple platforms, most notably the Saturn Aura xr. My vehicle is a 2007 edition. I first noticed the issue on my vehicle in 2010. First, the passenger sensing system indicated that no passenger was present. Second, the "service airbag soon" icaw would annunciate, sometimes while in motion and sometimes while stationary, when this happened traveling on the interstate I got quite flustered. I called the service center and took it to the last Saturn service center in fort worth where they told me that I'd most assuredly flooded my passenger compartment (never drove the car into a body of water--confused"?"). the fix was to replace the acm, the passenger sensing mat, and the seat heater--total cost ~$1K. But my car was still under warranty! this problem continued to happen and another dealership could never isolate the problem. Fast forward to now when I contacted GM about my concerns since nobody else could help me...GM stated that there was nothing they could do because my car was out of warranty. I asked the GM P.O.C. about the tsb I had found related to this issue. I stated my concerns for a tsb related to air bags over a 7 year period. Yes, you read that right. GM has had a tsb related to my problem, and the same airbag related recall Chrysler just started, for 7 years!!! please assist myself and other consumers from being hurt by this...

The vehicles has had a persistent problem with the airbag system, despite multiple replacements of the module allegedly responsible. The passenger airbag indicator will toggle to an off status despite the presence of an adult passenger, this behavior will occur without notice and with no change in the passenger's position. Additionally if there is no passenger the primary driver dashboard and information center will indicate a problem with the main airbag system illuminating the airbag icon, along with a message to "service air bag". this will occur on vehicle start or shortly thereafter. The red airbag light will at random times turn off, only to come on a few moments later. It may stay off for days or weeks at a time but will ultimately return.

Only 2 months old, passenger air bag light, would read off when a normal size adult was in the seat. Also "on star" reported air bag inoperative. Always had brake problems with rear pads wearing out way before the front. Steering wheel lock does not lock, and I noted this after 2 years, as my wife is the major driver of the car. I was so sick of the dealer, I replaced the master cylinder, rotors, with brembo, and used quality pads. The government should have gotten after GM! there are many complaints!

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the airbag warning light had been illuminated from the time she purchased the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The failure persisted and the contact had onstar capture the reading for the airbag warning light. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they advised her that the airbag was wired incorrectly. The vehicle was repaired for the airbag wiring and the seat replacement. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The contact was concerned due to the onboard computer not capturing or not reading the failure when needed. The failure mileage was approximately 8,100. The VIN was unavailable.

2007 Saturn Aura xe. Consumer states side air bags deployed while driving the consumer stated the driver side air bag hit and stung her on the arm very hard, and immediately following was the passenger side. The steering wheel locked as she attempted to steer the vehicle out of the flow of traffic, her seat belt locked and the vehicle instantly died and everything powered off. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership. The consumer finally received a call from an inspector, who stated the air bag deployment was somewhat a normal circumstance and was unrelated to an electric system malfunctioning. It was determined the electrical failure was due to an outside source and GM was not at fault.

"service air bag" indicator comes on and passenger air bag "on" symbol goes off occasionally at random times. Took it to dealer and they inform me that the passenger presence module needs to be replaced at a cost of approximately $750. Am uncertain if air bag will work when needed. Very premature failure for a safety related item. Vehicle is 4 1/2 years old with 47000 miles and has been maintained by selling dealer.

Service air bag light comes on intermittently. I've read online that this has been a problem for a ton of other 2007 Saturn Aura owners. I have heard that the repair is well over $1,000 because they have to take your passenger seat apart to get to the problem, & the labor costs alone are phenomenal! if so many people are having the same problem, why isn't this a recall"?" air bags are very important, & if mine don't work, I think I should get the cost to fix it (from GM) to pay for the problem!!!

I purchased this Saturn with 32K on it, two days after having the vehicle it started overheating and the air conditioner went out. I contacted the dealership because it was still under factory warranty. It took them a week to fix the vehicle because they had to completely rewire a few things. One month after that happened, I noticed when I turned I felt a popping in the floor board on the driver side. I again contacted the dealer and they had me bring the vehicle in and stated something was loose in the axel shaft and they 'fixed' the popping by tightening it up. Three months following the above events, I noticed the popping started again. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the front ball joint, rack, and pinion. I drove away from the dealership and immediately had to turn around and return the vehicle because the problem continued. At that point they had the vehicle for five months straight. They say they replaced everything from the steering column down. Every time I called for an update they always had a different answer. I have replaced the rotors on this car 3 times now and it only has 60K. The service airbag light continues to stay on. The dealership says they replaced the airbag coil but yet it continues to come on. Now the transmission is slipping constantly in 5th and 6th gear. This car has been the worst car I have ever owned. I will never purchase another GM product again. I have had nothing but issues with this car since the day I brought it home. My husband was called to deploy to iraq and we had a 2 week old baby so we had to get a bigger car before he left. We only had 3 days when he was called up to leave (he was inactive reserve and was called up). I did not have time to research this car before we bought it. If I could do it all over again I would never even consider this car. Reading into it now, it seems a lot of people have had the same issues with this car.
