Had the problem fixed the first time at local auto repair shop and it cost around $200 to repair with an aftermarket part. Same problem popped up about a year later and contacted GM about the problem and they told me to take it to a certified dealer 30 miles away and I would have to pay $65 for diagnostics. I ended up taking it to the local GM dealer( apparently not "Saturn" certified) and had the ignition switch and the bar repaired for $386.

Have done a lot of research and found numerous complaints about these ignition switches malfunctioning and GM hasn't recalled them yet. It's gonna be a pain to fix because the steering column has to be removed and I have no idea what the actual part will cost. Fixed it just before Christmas 2010 and now have the same problem again. I had a friend remove the bottom half of the column just to get the car home, otherwise the key won't turn over and it will kill the battery if the switch underneath the column isn't unplugged.
