need entire electrical computer replaced

The car became possessed - I was driving and the transmission dropped to 1st gear and wouldn't shift up, the door locks started locking and unlocking, the engine light came on, the Power Steering light came on (but I never lost power steering) and the speedometer quit working.

The auto repair shop thinks replacing the electrical computer will fix all of these problems, but they aren't sure. The Kelley Blue Book says the car is worth $3K+ with all repairs. I just had to have the gas tank replaced as it was leaking for no obvious reason/cause which came to $450. To replace the electrical computer will cost me $1,200.

Should I replace the computer or junk it? I'm leaning toward repairing it. I welcome your thoughts.
