About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Loose speed while driving drop from 55 to 10 almost comes to complete stop. It started on highway driving now it does it on city streets. Check engine light comes on and stays on for days at a time.

On June 7, 2014, the vehicle would not stop running. I took it to a nearby care care center where they stopped it. The recall establishment (zimbrick Buick-Saturn) told them to have the vehicle towed to their establishment. They kept the vehicle until June 26th trying to replace the switch and start the vehicle. They charged the car care center "jump started" the vehicle in a wrongful manner and that caused a computer to fail. I have a sworn statement that it was not jump started. They eventually replaced the computer with a used Cadillac part and charged me $1288.41. The entire process was caused by a defective ignition switch and incompetence in repairing the vehicle. I don't believe I should be required to pay the amount requested and seek compensation.

The car is presently under recall for ignition. However. The car cannot be driven as the pwr str warning comes on for a few seconds, and no steering or severe loss of all steering control of the vehicle is lost after the car has run for 15 minute and every 5 plus minutes after the first failure. GM will not fix anything on my vehicle, I made a complaint with NHTSA and have made internal complaint at GM regarding my 2007 Ion and the 3 accidents due to the loss of ignition and total power including brake failure going down the highway at 50 plus and losing control resulting in accidents. I need help to start the complaint about the power steering as it will not allow me to safely drive the car at all. I am disabled and on oxygen, I have requested special accommodations from GM to assist with my disabled condition to help expedite any repairs and all warranted coverages for power steering, air bag non function, and recalled ignition. The car presently has 55,000 miles and cannot be driven as the power steering will not allow the car to be controlled. The previous, most recent accident, caused structural damage including a front fender complete bent and radiator bent at a tail collision due to ignition outage with no brakes at 30 plus mph. No air bags deployed, only damages to myself, blindness to left eye and severe concussion, and car is not safe to drive. GM will has not taken any action since my phone complaints in April, almost 30 days ago. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Today my car has started accelerating unintentionally. It first happened when I was stopped at a red light. When I was leaving my destination around an hour later it started happening again. My car was literally slowly cruising through the parking lot without my foot on the gas pedal.

I want to add my vehicle to the list of complainants that are having trouble with the faulty power steering issue on the 2004-2007 Saturn Ions. I have had this trouble since the beginning of August this year almost right at 100,000 miles. That makes my car ineligible for the reimbursement offer GM has. It is only good for 10 years and 100,000 miles I was just past that. However, if you are forcing them to issue a recall I don't see why they should not have to fix my car as well. The incidents, thankfully, have only occurred while I was driving, and I have been able to control the vehicle. I have been fortunate enough to not have it go out in mid turn yet, and I have not had it go out at low speeds in high traffic yet. These are the most dangerous times, I believe, for the loss of power steering. Fortunately the unit has never failed while my wife was driving. In addition to being a touch physically weaker than I am she is terrified of driving anyway, and I fear if it happened to her she would absolutely have an accident as a result. I have also had problems with the cruise control not working since I purchased the vehicle on August 28, 2006. I took it in once under warranty to have it repaired and they said it was a well known loose wiring issue. It wasn't more than a month or so later that I was having the same issue. When I took it in for repair this time, they told me it was no longer covered under warranty and they wanted $600 to repair a "known loose wiring issue" I was understandably upset about that and chose to just have a finicky cruise control since then.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was sticking and must be pulled in order for it to loosen. The pedal made a popping sound when this occurred. Two months ago, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair and they stated that the pedal was faulty. Currently, the pedal is sticking once again and the contact will call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 19,650.

I purchased a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 quad coup in 2006. In April of 2007 the car began to make loud noised when starting it. It would idle high at stops and would feel like I was rolling gravel when coming to a stop and accelerating from a stop. I made an appointment for service. Saturn made me wait an entire week for an appointment. By time I brought my car in my check engine light was on. Saturn said they found nothing wrong but just updated the computer chip. Not even a week later the same problem occurred. I brought it in and this time they said the throttle body was broke. They claim to have replaced it. Two weeks ago I had the same issues. Loud noises, high idling, the car would literally jump back when I started it. I brought it in again, they said nothing was wrong and just updated the computer again. Yesterday as I was driving my car just stopped. Thank god no one was behind me because I would have been rear ended. I see no reason why their mechanics can't figure out what is wrong. Are they cutting corners to be able to "fix" more cars in one day. I don't see why a two year old car should have all these issues. I see from many blogs and web pages that people are having a lot of problems with this model Saturn. I think that GM should step up and do something about this, besides discontinue the make of the car which they already did. This is no longer an inconvenience, it's absolute frustration. I paid a lot of money for a car to be dependable and to get me from point a to point B safely. I do not want to be locked in my house because I'm afraid to get stranded somewhere.
