The car was running fine, no indications of any problem, and then just died at a stop light. The fuel pump had failed. Once it was replaced had another incident of driving along at 40 mph and the car stopped working - while I was driving! - the radio was still on, no warning lights lit up on the dash, just no power. Pulled over and restarted the car just fine and went on my way. Somehow it may have been related to the failed fuel pump but it's weird! Although this has only happened once I no longer have confidence in the car since it just stops working while driving down the road.
