Outlook XR 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 175,000 miles

I've own several GM products. never had problems. I couldn't afford a new car, bought a used Saturn Outlook XR . Paid cash, test drove car, no problems. On the way to pick up plates, lights came on, transmission overheating. Changed fluid, problem solved. Months later, traction control lights on, go off, come back on. Ttaking wife to work engine loss power, shut down, starts back up, make it home. Engine diagnostic shows bad sensors, then bad plugs, finally bad timing chain. Bought car in May drove it 5mos, now I'm out $6,000 UNTIL it can be repaired at a cost of about$ 3,000. Found out much too late there are a lot of problems with this particular engine, but GM IS DOING NOTHING TO HELP LOYAL CUSTOMERS.

Outlook XR 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 106,600 miles

We were driving from Augusta, Ga to Arkansas for nephew's wedding. Half way there, on cruise, 2000 RPM 's, 74 MPH, on fairly level interstate road, 2 people with luggage for long weekend, no warning, no noise, lights on dash started coming on, stability track turned off, reduced power, etc. noticed lots of blue smoke in rear view mirror. In less than one mile burned more than estimated 1.5 qts of oil. Towed it to Chevrolet dealer- needs a new long block. Failure occurred in lower portion of engine.

This car has been well maintained from new, was not abused, and not quite 107,000 miles. I saw where there was an extended coverage for 10 years/120,000 miles on the timing chain for the 3.6 liter motors and thought maybe this would cover it. Saturn says no. Called Saturn customer service in Michigan to see if any assistance with repairs were available. Saturn says no.

Very disappointed with GM. With the corporate decision to save a few dollars on the known ignition switch problem and not replace them, I've lost my trust in GM. We had multiple recalls on this vehicle. Two more recalls were due to be completed- rear lift struts and I believe the air bag. I've been a GM guy for a long time but at age 57 this has ended. We have purchased a Subaru Outback and are very happy. I guess GM doesn't worry anymore about keeping their customers happy.
