IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ON MY 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK SAYS OFF EVEN WHEN A FULL SIZED ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. SOMETIMES IF YOU MOVE AROUND IN THE SEAT OR GET OUT AND THEN GET BACK IN IT WILL COME ON BUT THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT IS A SENSOR IN THE SEAT AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY $900 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR SO THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WILL ACTUALLY FUNCTION.
AFTER SEARCHING THE WEB I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE A 'SAFETY RECALL". IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IT IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH A RIDICULOUS PRICE TAG FOR FIXING. AN UNAFFORDABLE PRICE FOR ANY AVERAGE PERSON! IF THE COMPANY CARES ABOUT SAFETY THEY WILL PUT OUT A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. IN ADDITION I NOTICED ON SEVERAL SITES THAT EVEN AFTER THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED THAT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. IN MY OPINION THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL SAFE IN OUR OWN VEHICLES.
I have contacted the dealer and their first offer was to pay 30% while I pay the remainder of the $900. The second offer is to pay 70% while I pay the $270 plus tax. I have not fixed it because I don't believe that I should have to fix a problem that is a clear safety issue that should be recalled. SO I am going to contact them weekly and file complaints every place possible until it is recalled because I am not the only Saturn owner who is having this problem.

Same problem as many others leaving comments about the passenger presence air bag sensor. The passenger air bag light would intermittently go off and then come back on when someone was sitting in the seat. Had GM look into this and they said there was no problem. Now the passenger air bag light stays off all the time when someone sits in the seat and a 'service air bag system' message appears on the dash. Had GM look again, which cost us $100, and now they say the PPS for the air bag is bad and will cost over $800 to fix! Bad design or inferior components, GM should step up and fix this problem as I have read too many others with the same problem.
