SL2 1.9L Dohc 16-valve

  • Manual transmission
  • 140,000 miles

The car is great except the fact that it burns oil in white and blue colored cloud puffs at times, especially when the vehicle is lower on oil. The spark plug on the right most side nearest to the battery terminal gets corroded in burnt oil from the burn off of the engine/plug firing..

I had replaced exhaust headers and straight pipe to the muffler recently as well hoping it would help the burn off breath more. I replaced multiple oil changes, and have replaced plugs more than twice.... ALL within a short 2 months of owning this vehicle. I have noticed however the smoke has gone and barely happens when the engine is full on oil, and all the plugs are clean, and not driven too hard. This is the best solution I have found for the problem with smoking from the exhaust. Not necessarily having clean oil so much.

I do love this car, and will sure miss Saturn, but never the less this is still a great car. There are ways to get the smoke to stop as well as all this, I have routinely been removing the right most spark plug where the build up of burnt oil residues on the plug, preventing it from thus firing correct. This has been the best part of preventing smoke burn off. Keeping the plugs clean with fine grit metal sandpaper or just getting a cheap set of new ones has been the best improvement of burn off in the engine and smoke from the exhaust.
