The air bag warning light is on at all times and "service air bag" appears in the driver information center and must be cleared after each start. The issue has been determined to be a faulty passenger presence sensor located in the bottom of the passenger seat. This has now rendered the passenger airbag inoperative at all times and possibly affects the safe operation of the entire SRS system. After doing some research online, this is a very, very common problem with the Saturn Skys and Pontiac solstices. It is very expensive to fix (around $800-$1000 for parts and labor) and apparently the replacement part has an equally short life expectancy and seems to develop the exact same problem for most of those that have replaced it thus far (according to research done online). This creates a very dangerous situation particularly since these 2 seat cars are quite small with plastic body components therefore making the airbags a necessity in a collision. GM, as well as their dealers are very aware of this problem but appear to be doing nothing to remedy the situation. Clearly it is NHTSA's duty to force their hand and make them recall these cars and replace these parts with a redesigned part that will work properly and that has an acceptable service life!

Passenger side occupancy sensor failed, and airbag will not deploy in the event of a crash even with someone sitting in the seat. Began as a random failure, switching from failed to operational on each start. Ultimately, stayed in failed condition. Upon starting the vehicle, dash warning appears warning of system failure. Dealer acknowledges this as a known issue, and research suggests hundreds of GM owners suffer the same issue. Only suggested remedy was a $900-$1000 replacement by dealer.

I brought my Saturn Sky that was manufactured by GM to my local Chevrolet dealer. They told me that the module is not on recall although many other models that GM makes did and does have a recall for the same product. I will no longer let anyone ride in the passenger seat. I would hope that someone would force GM to do what they have done for all their other makes and models. If someone gets hurt or possibly killed I will have to be forced to sue someone. They say the process costs $900 and I think if anything they should pay for at least the parts. How can they recall other models and not this model?

Passenger air bag light says off when someone is seated or unseated. Also shows red error airbag light on dash. Per the GM dealer, they say the passenger airbag will not deploy. This is a major safety issue that needs to be recalled.
