My 2003 Saturn VUE has a design problem with the rear window wiper. The mechanism works on electrical contact within the housing but the factory uses a huge amount of thick grease to lubricate the gear. This grease eventually makes it way onto the contacts and causes a short thus the wiper stops working. The fix is to remove, disassemble and clean/remove this grease, replace with dry lithium spray grease being careful to apply only to gears. The alternative is to replace with a new wiper costing over $250 which is of course ridiculous cost.
