HOW in the WORLD could the dealer have parted with this SUV for $3800?! He must have known of the condition of this vehicle? This particular issue was discovered when the brake pad fractured, causing the right front wheel to seize up. (Details elsewhere.) On attempting to hook the chain to the rear axle, the tow-truck driver discovered the rear axle is just a streak of rust, and notified us of the problem. He had to load the car facing backward. This problem could cause the rear axle to break in two or three pieces while traveling on the road. And it could result in a serious, even fatal WRECK!
I am not sure we are ever going to bother with any more repairs to this vehicle. Granted we could get a rear axle from a salvage yard, but with other issues, I'm not sure we really want to. Meanwhile I am stuck with payments of $134 per month, plus $47 a month full-coverage insurance, for a piece of... No recourse without ruining our credit.
