It began on the roof of my 2012 Scion IQ. One morning I waked outside to go to work and there was chunks of peeled car paint scattered throughout the driveway. Over the next few weeks I had NO PAINT left on my roof- none at all. I was hoping that would be the end of it. A few weeks later my driver side panel slowly starting peeling and is now all the way past my gas cap. My car now looks like a deficient Zebra. In another year I will have no paint left on my car!
I tried calling Toyota but they said there was nothing they could do since the warranty was expired.
Toyota needs to nut up and take responsibility for this issue. I am a few months away from trading in this P.O.S and never using Toyota again.

My research is generating numerous online reports of Blizzard Pearl paint peeling off of Scion iQs. There are reports in the USA and Canada. There are several phone numbers for contacting Scion Customer Services and I am in the process of making phone call inquiries. This is a serious problem.

I have spent years going around with Toyota since the paint started coming off in sheets after I bought it in 2014. Please, if anyone is doing a class action suit, count me in. I fear that the cost to repaint the car will surpass its value.
Update from Jan 25, 2019: There is a Facebook group of Toyota, Lexus, and Scion owners also experiencing Blizzard Pearl paint peeling. Please join if you are also affected! https://www.facebook.com/groups/288416678661392/

Very pissed off that my 2012 Scion IQ Pearl White paint has started peeling from the corners on the roof. I spoke with expert car painters and they tell me that the peeling paint was abnormal and that the paint was the problem. I called Toyota and spoke to their people and they say that they pay for the repaint due to expired warranty which for paint is 30,000 miles or 3 years. How convenient that the paint started peeling at 45,000 miles. I am contacting a lawyer for a class action suit. My research shows that this is a manufacturing problem with this particular year and white pearl paint.

Rumor has it that Toyota in the UK will pay to fix Scions with the pearl white that is flaking. My Toyota dealer says they want $3500 to repaint 12 sq feet of roof. As a "goodwill gesture they will only charge me half $1700. So bottom line, Toyota wants to make more money off me rather than fix the problem.

Paint started peeling off. Told Toyota Chula Vista Ca dealership about it and said that they would have to remove the all the paint from the car and if they find that it wasn't defective, I would have to pay for it. So now I'm not leaving the car there and risk to pay for it.

I bought a 2012 Scion IQ Pearl White in 2014. Around mid-January, my painted started peeling off the top of my car for no apparent reason. After googling, I found that several other owners of the same make, model, and finish had had the same issue. I took it to an independent shop, and the owner told me to take it to Toyota, as it was clearly an issue with improper priming.
I took it to Manhattan Beach Toyota, and they submitted my pictures to their rep and got an estimate. Today I was told that Toyota was only offering $500 to "help" with the $1500+ repair (which was the estimate their repair guy gave- the only person I could use to even receive the offered "assistance). This is ridiculous! I paid 12k for the car, and now they want me to pay over $1000 to have just the roof repainted because they didn't prime this car correctly? I have to drive around a ghetto looking car now simply because of Toyota's manufacturing defects. Clearly there is precedent (as evidenced online) of Toyota taking ownership and assisting with repairs.
I should not have to pay a cent to have this fixed, as it is Toyota's fault. I find the apathy and lack of ownership on Toyota's end completely appalling. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I am considering consulting with a lawyer regarding a class action lawsuit. Please get in touch if you have had the same issue!

I first noticed paint damage on the roof of my white 2012 Scion iQ a couple of weeks ago, and now it's nearly 1m in diameter. I took it to a body shop for an unrelated accident and asked them about it. They said it would be functionally impossible for them to repair and that I should return it to the dealership as it's presumed to be under warranty. I'm not sure about that - I've encountered a dozen owners of white 2012 iQs with the same paint problems in different areas of the car, like it's delaminating or something. It's causing sun damage already!
Update from Jan 31, 2018: I took it to the dealership and they claim to be unable to do anything about it, but someone from corporate will be in next week to look at it.
Update from Jan 22, 2019: The paint is peeling off AGAIN, albeit in different sections this time. I'm hesitant to bring it to a dealer because I suspect my warranty has expired. What's this about a lawsuit?

I purchased my Scion IQ at the end of 2012 new. When it was days over 4 years old, the paint on the roof began to bubble and peel. I went into Toyota where I purchased, and they told me it would be 2300.00 to repaint the roof of the car! Also, they told me that Toyota only guarantees their paint for 3 years.
WHAT??? Why then did I pay for the vehicle to be coated with a protective shield that was supposed to last the life of the car? Also, if they had primed the roof correctly, why is it peeling after such little wear and only 4 years? Also, why are there so many cars older than mine on the road without paint peeling from the roof?
I spoke with 2 separate body paint professionals (other than Toyota) who told me that Toyota obviously had improperly primed the roof of my car and that they should cover the new paint job. Toyota refused. Over the last 5 months, I have gone back 5 times total.
Finally, this week, they agreed to repaint the roof for 731.00. That is still a lot of money for them to charge me on a car with (now 20,000 miles) that has been well-kept and through no fault of my own, the paint bubbled and then peeled off in sheets.
I still owe 6,000. on the car (its initial cost was about 22,000 with the warranties). Has anyone else had paint problems with Scion, and what did you do about it?

No car that is 3 years old with original paint should have such defect.

Such a disappointment Toyota.
After 5 years of complaining to my dealership, there is finally a recall. Better late than never. Hurry up and get this recall in place. Yesterday a 2ft by 2ft sheet of paint flew off my car. Next piece will fly onto the car behind me and block their windshield causing a major accident.
I'm so disgusted. I bought my car with cash saving all my tip money for 6 years. Two years later, I'm driving a hunk of junk that looks 12 years old. Such an embarrassment to me, and to you Toyota.
